Hurricane stresses Puerto Rico's already weak health system
Martin Lopez was shot in the hand on Sept. 23 by two thieves in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. He was rushed to Centro Medico, a trauma center in the Puerto Rican capital. Waiting more than five days for treatment, Lopez finally received surgery. "Thank God I'm fine, I'm getting better," he said in an air-conditioned medical tent set up by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on the grounds of Centro Medico.
