Over 100 court sittings are postponed in Gozo

As Tutu turns 90, South Africa fetes, but misses anti-apartheid icon's voice

Times of Malta

As Desmond Tutu turns 90 on Thursday, he remains indisputably the moral voice of South Africa. But age is catching up with him. The jovial emeritus archbishop retired in 2010 and rarely speaks in public, in a country that sometimes feels adrift without the leadership of its anti-apartheid liberation icons. Trees are overrated – Justin Cauchi

Times of Malta

Planting more trees is not a miracle solution to environmental degradation. Trees have unwittingly become the mascot of any cry against an unsavoury development. Be it a road-widening  exercise where some trees are uprooted (with or without permits) or a new urban park where the few planted trees barely contrast the sea of grey coming from concrete, the centre of public outcry against such developments are always the infamous trees. And this constant media spotlight on trees has had an unexpected... Читать дальше...

The “worrying” delay in... Читать дальше...

Supply chain weakest links

Times of Malta

Chains are as strong as their weakest links. These last two years have proven that the globalised economy’s supply chain has a few weak links that need urgent attention. At the beginning of the pandemic, a shortage of toilet paper led to panic buying by many who may not necessarily understand how the just-in-time inventory system works. Thanks to the promotion of free trade in the last few decades, global trade has built its critical success factor on efficient delivery of raw materials to producers... Читать дальше...

Times of Malta

Facebook battled duelling crises Monday as potentially billions of users were impacted when its dominant social network went offline for seven hours, and the company fought against a whistleblower's damning revelations. Many long-held fears and criticisms about the platform seem to have been backed up by Facebook's own research, which ex-worker Frances Haugen has turned over to authorities and the Wall Street Journal.  But as US senators prepared for her highly anticipated Tuesday testimony on the documents... Letters to the editor - October 5, 2021

Times of Malta

Our cold indifference Maltese society has lost its moral compass. The recent case of Lamin Jaiteh, left injured on the pavement by those who ought to have offered him assistance, is another case in point. This incidence turns the parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10, 25-37) upside down. What will it take to make us admit with shame that this latest anti-social and anti-moral episode indicates a much more pervasive ethical sickness that our society is suffering from?  Are these just single, separate...
