France’s ‘chameleon’ orchestra with an ear for authenticity

Times of Malta

Almost two decades ago, a French orchestra set itself a radical challenge – not only to hop between wildly different eras but to play solely with instruments from those times.  While most classical musicians spend their lives mastering a single instrument, the members of Les Siècles (The Centuries) are known to swap their tools as often as three or four times in a single show. Their determination to stick with period-specific instruments means catgut strings on their violins, antique oboes, and... Читать дальше...

Project helps jobseekers with disabilities find work

Times of Malta

When human resources expert Michael Evans was approached to help people with disabilities prepare for job interviews, the request intimidated him. “I was not scared of anything,” he says. “I served in the air force but I was scared to interview people with a disability. I thought they would beat me or something.” Twenty years on, the Scot laughs at the absurdity of his initial reaction but believes employers might still have similar irrational fears and is now training job coaches in Malta to help disadvantaged people find work.
