Glass strewn all over Kappara to San Ġwann subway

A cyclist had to carry his bicycle through the Kappara to San Ġwann subway on Sunday when he found that this had been strewn all over with glass. In a post on Facebook, James Craig Wightman wrote: “I had to carry the bike through. Imagine carrying a pedelec with panniers stuffed with work things or your kid wearing flip flops taking a shortcut.” Wightman said this was the brand new subway near Zammit Clapp Hospital under Regional Road.

Romanian billionaire, seven others die in plane crash near Milan

A light aircraft piloted by Romanian billionaire Dan Petrescu crashed into an empty office building near Milan on Sunday, killing him, his wife and their son, and all five others aboard, Italian media reported.  The single-engine Pilatus PC-12 had taken off from Milan's Linate airport shortly after 1pm (1100 GMT) headed for Olbia in the north of the Italian island of Sardinia. Pandora Papers expose offshore assets of heads of state, government

More than a dozen heads of state and government, including the King of Jordan and the Czech prime minister, have hidden millions in offshore tax havens, according to an investigation published Sunday by the ICIJ media consortium. The so-called Pandora Papers investigation - involving some 600 journalists from media including Times of Malta, The Washington Post, the BBC and The Guardian - is based on the leak of some 11.9 million documents from 14 financial services companies around the world.... Guevara wins US Moto3 race after horror crashes

A mud-spattered Sonny Colbrelli won a three-way cat-and-mouse struggle to claim victory in the epic Paris-Roubaix bike race in dreadful conditions on Sunday. Tazza l-Kbira competition gets underway with six heats

The 28th meeting of the season, which was held yesterday afternoon at the Marsa Racetrack, heralded the start of the BOV Tazza l-Kbira competition for class Premier trotters. AG scrambles to have alleged $50m US fraudster extradited

The Attorney General has filed a fresh request to extradite a man believed to have run a $50 million racket defrauding the US Navy.  Frank Rafaraci, a 68-year-old Italian-American national, is wanted by the District Court of Columbia in the US over a raft of charges, including conspiracy to commit bribery, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.  He has been in and out of court these past few days as the authorities’ attempts to have him handed over to the US have been hamstrung. Libya raid against migrants kills one, wounds 15 - UN

Sweeping raids in Libya targeting mostly irregular migrants left at least one person dead, 15 wounded and 4,000 in detention, the UN said, stressing that authorities must respect human rights. One child dead, flights suspended as cyclone approaches Oman

One child has died in flash flooding while flights and schools have been suspended as tropical Cyclone Shaheen bears down on Oman, authorities said Sunday.
