Andrew Abela moves up to 34th in overall standings at Marathon Sables

Andrew Abela continued to put in strong performances at the 35th edition of the Marathon Sables as he continued to gain positions after every stage to continue the climb in the overall standings. In the fourth stage of the race, athletes have had to cover a distance of 82.5km. At the start of the stage Andrew Abela seemed to have the potential to join the top 50 athletes in the overall rankings and so he did. Injured worker describes how he dragged himself on his elbows after being dumped

A migrant worker who fell two storeys in a construction site testified from his hospital bed on Thursday how he was allegedly dumped in the middle of a street by his employer and had to drag himself on his elbows to the nearest pavement. Lamin Jaiteh told a seven-hour court sitting he thought he was going to die after his boss, Glen Farrugia, pulled him by his armpits from the back of a company van and then drove off. Team Malta win nine medals at World Company Sports Games

The Malta contingent that is currently taking part in the World Company Sports Games, which are currently being held in Athens, has secured nine medals in the athletics programme held on Thursday. Over 3,000 athletes from 32 countries are currently taking part in these Games. Team Malta on Thursday managed to win four gold medals on the track, through Rachid Chouhal in the 100m Catogry C, Aaron Mifsud (1,500m Category C) Jean Paul Debono (1,500m Category A) and Mireya Cassar in the shot put Open category. Polish court rules against supremacy of EU law

Poland's top court on Thursday ruled against the supremacy of EU law in a landmark ruling that could threaten the country's EU funding and even its membership of the bloc. The court said some EU treaty articles were "incompatible" with the Polish constitution and warned EU institutions not to "act beyond the scope of their competencies" by interfering with Poland's judiciary -- a major bone of contention with Brussels. Fishermen fear for their future over Marsascala marina plans

Fishermen based in Marsascala have been left fearing for their future over plans to build a massive yacht marina in the bay where they are based.   In a press conference organised by Graffitti, the fishermen angrily questioned what would become of them.   “We were born here and intend to stay here. Students’ competition promotes democracy for active and responsible citizenship

In October last year, NGO Repubblika launched its Active and Responsible Citizenship campaign, a permanent educational campaign to promote a culture of democracy, the respect of human rights and the rule of law.  The campaign, based on a declaration of principles and values available on the NGO’s website, is pitched at different levels. MSE Equity Price Index snaps three-day positive streak

The MSE Equity Price Index moved lower for the first time in four sessions on Thursday as it lost 0.23% to 3,895.552 points. The declines in GO, MIA, RS2 and Santumas outweighed the gains in Farsons and Trident. Meanwhile, MPC and PG remained unchanged as overall trading activity amounted to €0.08 million. GO plc lost 1.8% to a 6-month low at the €3.26 level on three deals totalling 3,800 shares. 42% of businesses say they will raise prices due to cost pressure

Rising costs will lead 42% of businesses to increase their prices in the next 12 months, a survey commissioned by the Chamber of Commerce has found. Just over half of businesses expect prices to remain the same, and just six per cent envisage a dorp in prices. The top concern for businesses for the final quarter of 2021 was restoring profitability, Chamber president Marisa Xuereb said. France summons archbishop over 'confession above law' stance

Scooter-rider, 18, injured in Sliema

An Italian woman, 18, was injured when she was hit by a car while riding a motor-scooter at Sliema Strand on Thursday. The accident happened at about noon. Her condition is not known. The car, an Audi A3, was driven by a 38-year-old Portuguese man. The police are investigating.
