Football’s five-substitutes option to be made permanent

Football competitions can decide to make the originally temporary five-substitutes rule permanent, the sport’s rule-making body IFAB recommended on Wednesday. “FAP-TAP (football and technical advisory panels) today recommended that competitions should be able to decide on increasing the number of substitutes according to the needs of their football environment,” read an IFAB statement. Only one in three sexual assaults are reported to police

Only one in three victims of sexual assault, who, this year, sought support from an NGO that specialised in the matter, reported their case to the police, data has revealed. The Care for Victims of Sexual Assault (CVSA) service – run by Victim Support Malta in collaboration Social Solidarity Ministry – this year supported 58 victims of sexual assault, 53 of whom were women, Kyra Borg who heads the agency, said. President discusses relations with Croatia in Zagreb talks

President George Vella has had talks in Zagreb with Croatian President Zoran Milanović. MSE Equity Price Index moves lower on subdued activity

The MSE Equity Price Index eased by 0.34% to 3,878.673 points as the declines in GO, IHI and RS2 outweighed the gain in HSBC. Meanwhile, MIA and MPC remained unchanged as overall trading activity amounted to €0.04 million. GO plc lost 2.9% to the €3.30 level on two trades totalling 3,077 shares. The ordinary shares of RS2 Software plc retreated by 1.1% to the €1.73 level on a single deal of 2,858 shares. Italian FA probing suspect player transfers

The Italian Football Federation confirmed to AFP on Wednesday media reports that it has opened an investigation into a series of suspicious transfers. Dailies La Repubblica and Il Tempo reported that Serie A’s supervisory commission COVISOC has sent to FIGC president Gabriele Gravina and the body’s lead prosecutor Giuseppe Chine a report on 62 transfers over 2019-2021. Mellieħa murder victim bled to death after liver injury, court hears

A man who was murdered in a Mellieħa apartment in July, bled slowly to death after his liver was punctured, a court heard on Wednesday. Forensic evidence about the nature of the victim’s injuries emerged in ongoing proceedings against Mayumi Santos Patacsil, a 44-year old Filipino who stands accused of fatally stabbing Marcelino Montalban Saraza, who was her partner.   The victim was found lying in a pool of blood covered by a sheet on the floor, close to the kitchen area. Mtarfa residents trapped in their locality by road works, motorist complains

Mtarfa residents who left home later than usual were in for a surprise on Wednesday morning when they found that the only road in and out of the locality was inaccessible due to roadworks which coincided with the change in direction of the locality's exit point. Uprooted trees account for €1 out of every €3 in environmental fines

A third of fines by the environmental watchdog in the past two years were issued for the uprooting of trees, official figures show.
