A journalist with Australia media caught Macron on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rome, and asked him whether he thought the Australian leader had been untruthful to him.  "I don't think. I know," Macron replied. The journalist posted a video of the exchange on Twitter, in which the French president... Читать дальше...

Facebook’s future tops agenda at Web Summit

Times of Malta

Facebook will face intense scrutiny over its future at next week’s Web Summit, with its ‘Meta’ rebrand and a damaging whistleblower scandal set to dominate discussions at one of the world’s biggest tech conferences. The gathering of the global tech elite in Portugal’s capital Lisbon is set to welcome some 40,000 people from Monday evening through Thursday.  That’s down from 70,000 in a non-pandemic year − but Web Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave said there was nonetheless a “strange euphoria” around... Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has written to the Children’s Commissioner asking whether Rosianne Cutajar's stunt giving sweets to primary school children is acceptable.  “Is it normal and acceptable practice for us political candidates to go on the doorsteps of primary schools to hand out sweets to children with our names on the package, just so we can win some votes from their parents?”  On Saturday, Cutajar posted a number of photos of her visting schools with bags of candy. She said... Читать дальше...

Age of Empires reboots for a new era

Times of Malta

After 16 years in hibernation, landmark game series Age of Empires is back - but publisher Microsoft faces an uphill battle to conquer a new generation of players. Fans of the historical strategy game have been eagerly awaiting Thursday's release of Age of Empires IV for PC, which returns to the medieval era.  The game's developers said the setting was a no-brainer given the enduring popularity of the second game in the series, which similarly transported players to the time of Genghis Khan and Joan of Arc. Employers call for amnesty to help get undocumented workers in line

Times of Malta

The process of trying to bring their undocumented workers in line with the law is “disheartening” and it often “feels unachievable”, according to a number of employers. Multiple employers who spoke to Times of Malta over the past few weeks have admitted they feel the need to regularise their undocumented workers and say a temporary amnesty would help them do so. The feeling was accentuated after migrant worker Jaiteh Lamin was allegedly abandoned on the road by his boss – instead of being taken to hospital ... Читать дальше...

Times of Malta

Joaquin Correa’s slick second-half double earned Inter Milan a 2-0 win over Udinese in Serie A on Sunday to consolidate the defending champion’s hold on third place. The Argentina international joined Inter on loan from Lazio in August and made an immediate impact, scoring twice on his debut against Verona. And he repeated the feat against Udinese, who reached the interval having survived a seven-shot onslaught from Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella, and a goalmouth scramble. Correa finally got the breakthrough goal on the hour... Читать дальше...

The blue southeast of Malta amid undercurrents of disruptive change

Times of Malta

Xlokk Kaħlani can be loosely translated as ‘The Blue Southeast’, maybe evoking the Maltese seaside villages of Marsaxlokk, Birżebbuġa and Marsascala. These three once idyllic villages have been pillaged almost beyond recognition. One would think that the title of Kamy Aquilina’s first solo exhibition could be an ironic yet nostalgically loaded comment, referring to a national, somewhat Mediterranean complacency that allows the destruction of our habitats as long as we are blinded by the thralls of a big blue sea. Artworks reimagine nature in fragments: an interview with artist Thea Vella

Times of Malta

The artworks in Reconstructed Landscapes by emerging artist Thea Vella aim to raise awareness on our surroundings. She speaks with Lara Zammit on her works’ conceptual underpinnings.  LZ: Reconstruction implies an original state of fragmentation, which is a quality inherent to Maltese landscapes in general. Nature, however, is not composed of pieces. For there to be a landscape, there must be a unity and a wholeness. What is the aim of reconstruction in your exhibition? Are you trying to retrieve... Of those surveyed, Degiorgio found that half were intrigued by the idea of receiving €25 from the government for every kilo they lost. Most said such an incentive... Читать дальше...

Killing the killer: is it possible to improve lung cancer treatment?

Times of Malta

Lung cancer can strike anyone. This is the message that the American Cancer Society highlighted last October. People who smoke, people who quit smoking and even those who have never smoked are all susceptible, with smokers being at the highest risk. In Malta, lung cancer has been the most common cause of cancer-related deaths, with a specific type called Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) being the most common and the most difficult to treat. Lung cancer initially appears as just a few cells in a particular area in the lung. Читать дальше...
