No social distancing for vaccinated people at events, restaurants in November

Establishments hosting up to 300 vaccinated, seated and masked people will, as of Monday, be able to do away with social-distancing precautions, Chris Fearne told Parliament. The health minister said COVID rules will start being eased for restaurants, każini and weddings among others, and if the number of new cases remained stable, measures will also be lifted for stand-up events from mid-November. Italian FA to probe Roma fans’ racist chant at Osimhen

The Italian Football Federation said Monday that it will be investigating a racist chant directed at Victor Osimhen by Roma fans during their goalless draw with Napoli at the weekend. Sudan's top general declared a state of emergency on Monday as soldiers rounded up civilian leaders, with three people killed as soldiers put down furious protests decrying a coup. Motorcyclist dies after falling off bike in St Julian's

A motorcyclist died after falling off his bike in St Julian's. The 53-year-old Serbian man from Birkirkara was riding along Mikiel Anton Vassalli Road at around 5.15pm, the police said in a statement. He lost control of his BMW motorbike, fell off and was injured. He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital where he died shortly after. Magisterial and police investigations are ongoing. 

Sports coach convicted of defilement in 1970s denied bail over abuse of teenager

A pensioner who allegedly defiled a 15-year old girl entrusted to his care as a sports coach, was remanded in custody upon his arraignment on Monday evening. The accused had already been convicted of defilement of a minor in the 1970s. The man, whose name was banned upon request by the prosecution to safeguard the girl’s identity, pleaded not guilty to the non-consensual acts, defilement as well as having repeatedly subjected the vulnerable victim to such offensive, humiliating, degrading and intimidating behaviour. PayPal quashes Pinterest acquisition rumours

Online payments giant PayPal has said it is not seeking to buy Pinterest, ending days of speculation that had prompted shares in the image-sharing site to soar. Bloomberg had reported last week that the two California-based companies were discussing an acquisition price of $70 (€60) per share, which would value Pinterest at about $44 billion taking into account the total outstanding shares. Volvo Cars sets share price for IPO at 53 kronor (€5.32)

Swedish car brand Volvo said on Monday it has set a fixed share price of 53 kronor (€5.32) for its listing on the Stockholm stock exchange later this week. Hertz orders 100,000 Tesla electric cars

Hertz announced on Monday an order to buy 100,000 cars from Tesla by the end of 2022 in the latest embrace of electric car technology by the car industry. Alec Baldwin was rehearsing a scene that involved pointing a prop gun at the camera lens when he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, US media reported, citing an affidavit recording his director's account of the tragedy. 13 new COVID-19 cases, 13 patients in hospital

Thirteen new COVID-19 cases were reported on Monday, with the health authorities saying that 13 virus patients are in hospital, four in critical care. On Sunday, 12 new cases were reported and there were 12 virus patients in hospital. 21 patients were declared recovered on Monday, leaving 219 active cases. The number of virus vaccine jabs rose to 867,820 including 44,830 booster shots.

A couple has successfully challenged the mandatory forfeiture of bail money in case of a conviction for breaching bail conditions, benefiting from recent legal amendments.   Maria Patricia De Las Heras and Christoph Jorge Valdivia Docio, both 36-year old Spanish nationals, were fined €500 and ordered to forfeit €300 out of the €5,000 personal guarantee that had been imposed upon each of them as one of the conditions for bail.
