Algeria's Cerbah, star of '82 World Cup run, dies at 68

Former Algerian goalkeeper Mehdi Cerbah, part of the team that famously beat West Germany in a major World Cup upset in 1982, died Friday aged 68 after a long illness, official media reported. Cerbah started his career in 1969 at USM Alger before joining JS Kabylie in 1972, playing eight seasons before moving to RC Kouba until 1982. But he will be remembered for his 62 international caps, including as part of the team that snatched a shock 2-1 victory against the Germans in the group stages of the World Cup in Spain. US authorizes Pfizer Covid vaccine for children 5-11: regulator

The United States on Friday authorized the Pfizer Covid vaccine for children aged five-to-11 after a committee of experts this week found its benefits outweighed the risks. Iran blames cyber attack as fuel supply hit

Iranian authorities on Tuesday blamed a mysterious cyber-attack for unprecedented disruption to the country's fuel distribution network. Iran is a major oil producer and the country's motorists, used to cheap petrol, were surprised to see filling stations inexplicably closing one after the other and queues growing longer. Man remanded for allegedly raping ex-girlfriend

A man who allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend at a St Paul’s Bay apartment on Wednesday, was denied bail on Friday although his lawyers argued that the allegations were “fabricated”. Man charged with attempted murder remanded in custody

A man who allegedly first tried to rob his victim and then stabbed him in the hand with a penknife, was remanded in custody by a court which said that such crimes against society were not to be tolerated. Yorgen Fenech lawyers object to money laundering charges as evidence

No one was contesting Yorgen Fenech’s presumption of innocence by requesting a copy of the money laundering charges against the businessman as evidence in constitutional proceedings where he was challenging the repeated denial of bail, a court heard on Friday. 90 per cent of COVID vouchers used, as deadline looms
