Times of Malta

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and the ex-boss of UEFA Michel Platini are heading towards a trial for fraud and abuse of confidence, Swiss prosecutors told AFP on Wednesday. Art restoration brings priest closer to prison inmates

Times of Malta

The restoration of artworks in the prison chapel has been psychologically challenging for Fr Charles Vella, who has found himself shifting from conservator to confidante as inmates tell him their stories in the penitentiary setting. Among the differences on the job, he has strict instructions to leave any chemicals and tools under lock and key when he is not around to avoid abuse. “I was mentally and physically drained when I completed the first canvas painting,” Fr Vella said. Website for animal adoption proposed

Times of Malta

Pet adoptions could be made simpler by setting up a website where anyone seeking to adopt an animal would find a list of all cats and dogs in need of a home, Animal Welfare Commissioner Alison Bezzina is recommending. This would help address the overpopulation of animals in sanctuaries and free up space for rescues, she said. This was one of the recent proposals put forward to the Animal Rights Ministry by Bezzina who took on her role almost a year ago. Since then she has made various recommendations... Читать дальше...

Times of Malta

Democrats are expected to be thwarted Wednesday in a vote to overcome a Republican roadblock on suspending the US debt limit -- with just 12 days left to avoid a cataclysmic credit default. The vote, a procedural hurdle for moving forward on House-passed legislation to lift the debt ceiling, needs 60 senators to pass, but all 50 opposition Republicans in the evenly divided upper chamber are expected to block it. "Republican obstruction on the debt ceiling over the last few weeks has been reckless... Читать дальше...

Times of Malta

Artists and printmakers Jesmond Vassallo, Lino Borg and Justin Falzon came up with the concept of iMprint in 2015, with the aim of promoting original printmaking in Malta, particularly intaglio printing processes, through a series of curated exhibitions.  Judging by the large number of artists who submit their work in the hope of it being chosen for the next iMprint edition and judging also by the visiting public that expects a level of high artistic competence, I think we can safely assert that... Barcelona were ‘technically bankrupt’ in March says CEO

Times of Malta

Barcelona chief executive Ferran Reverter said Wednesday the club was “technically bankrupt” when Joan Laporta took over as president in March, and would have been “dissolved” if it was a public limited company. The Spanish giant’s financial woes were laid bare in August when they were forced to allow Lionel Messi to join Paris Saint-Germain after admitting they could no longer afford to keep the six-time world player of the year. The new board inherited debts of 1.35 billion euros ($1.56 billion)... Читать дальше...

After a poor start, Marthese Cossai clawed some pins back on Spiteri, but did not manage to recover the gap and had to settle for third place, just under 100 pins behind Spiteri. Читать дальше...
