Explosion injures people at St Petersburg supermarket

A number of people have been injured by an explosion at a supermarket in St Petersburg, according to news reports in Russia. Russian news agencies quoted St Petersburg's branch of the Emergencies Ministry as saying that a device containing 200 grams of explosives went off on Wednesday at a storage area for customers' bags. Dogs left abandoned in Marsa for at least six hours

Two dogs were tied in Marsa and abandoned, according to a report on social media. A woman claimed that although she reported the case to the Animal Welfare Department the dogs were still unattended to six hours later. Tokyo-bound plane returns to LA because passenger was on wrong flight

A Tokyo-bound flight returned to Los Angeles hours into the journey after the crew discovered that one of the passengers had boarded the wrong plane, an airline said. A statement from All Nippon Airways said the pilot decided to return to the originating airport as part of the airline's security procedures. A Syrian man who was arrested on Christmas Eve upon disembarking from the catamaran with some 48kg of water pipe tobacco stacked inside his van has been granted bail. Al-Abbar Baraa Mohammed Al Maamun, the 31-year old, was stopped by Customs officers last Sunday as he drove his van off the catamaran upon its arrival from Sicily. Restoration of Palazzo Verdelin in Archbishop Street has been completed ahead of Valletta 2018. An early example of baroque architecture in Malta, the 17th century building overlooking St George’s Square had its façade restored and parts of it replaced. The project started in September. Palazzo Verdelin is the largest of the three Valletta buildings owned by knight Jean-Jacques de Verdelin and is privately owned.
