A skydiving Santa looking to make a grand entrance while delivering a toy to a nine-year-old girl broke his leg after crashing into a tree and pole as he came in to land at a beach in Florida. George Krokus was dressed as Santa Claus during a skydive to deliver toys to the Tampa Bay Beach Bums Operation Santa Charity Volleyball Tournament, news outlets said. Trains collide near Duesseldorf

Several people were injured in a train crash near the German city of Duesseldorf, fire department and police spokesmen said on Tuesday. German broadcaster ARD reported that about 50 people had been injured after a passenger train drove into a freight train in the town of Meerbusch.

Trump tells Mideast leaders of plan to move embassy to Jerusalem in break with US policy

President Donald Trump told Arab leaders on Tuesday that he intends to move the USembassy in Israel to Jerusalem, a move that would break with decades of US policy and risks fueling further unrest in the Middle East. Senior U.S. officials have said Trump is likely on Wednesday to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital while delaying relocating the embassy from Tel Aviv for another six months, though he is expected to order his aides to begin planning such a move immediately. Woman fined €800 for threatening health centre nurse

A woman who insulted and threatened a nurse at Paola Health Centre while accompanying her son to the clinic for treatment, was conditionally discharged by a Magistrates’ Court today and fined €800 over the disturbance. The incident occurred one evening in April 2015 when the 25-year old mother, had taken her son to the Health Centre at around 7.45pm. Three men, all well known in criminal circles, were arraigned before a magistrate on Tuesday evening and accused of the murder of blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia. Brothers Alfred Degiorgio (known as Il-fulu) and George Degiorgio (Iċ-Ċiniz) as well as Vince Muscat, (known as il-koħħu), pleaded not guilty to the car bomb murder which shocked the nation on October 16. Watch: Sliema developers finding 'easy way out' of parking obligations

The Sliema local council wants a revision of the “ridiculous” fees developers currently have to pay when not providing enough parking spaces for their new buildings. The Commuted Parking Payments Scheme (CPPS) allows for a monetary contribution towards public parking facilities in places where parking provision would be impossible. Law firm seeks criminal case against Shell and its CEO over Nigeria deal

A Dutch law firm has asked the public prosecutor in the Netherlands to file a case against Royal Dutch Shell, its CEO and former executives of over what it says were criminal actions relating to a 2011 oilfield purchase in Nigeria. Defibrillator installed at Gozo Citadel

A defibrillator has been installed at the entrance of the Gozo Citadel, giving the public access to this equipment used when people have a heart attack. Emergency Response and Rescue Corps head Etienne Micallef said it was important to have this station in such a busy place. “In the case of a heart attack, every second counts,” he said. The corps purchased the defibrillator from funds allocated to voluntary organisations by the Gozo Ministry, though the Gozo NGO Scheme.

Malta’s budget for 2018 has been approved by the Council on Financial and Economic Affairs (ECOFIN) following the green light given by the European Commission last November. Airlines set for record profit in 2018

Improving economies and robust travel demand will return global airlines to record profit in 2018, with fares also set to rise, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said. Overall profits are expected to rise 11% to $38.4 billion in 2018, and the outlook is encouraging, IATA said on Tuesday as it raised its 2017 forecast to $34.5 billion, up from an earlier $31.4 billion estimate, but still lower than 2016.
