Lingard bags a brace as United win at Arsenal

Times of Malta

Jesse Lingard scored twice as 10-man Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-1 in a pulsating Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium. United burst out of the traps and Antonio Valencia opened the scoring in the fourth minute after linking up with Paul Pogba and drilling the ball through the legs of Petr Cech from 15 yards. The Red Devils doubled their lead after 11 minutes through Lingard, who benefited from a fine Anthony Martial lay-off before converting in off a post. Arsenal wasted numerous chances to cut the deficit... Читать дальше...

Strasbourg had gone ahead through the inspirational... Читать дальше...

Communicating research findings shouldn't be rocket science

Times of Malta

In times when fake news and alternative facts circulate in society, spreading scientifically based findings is more important than ever. This makes science communication one of academia’s most vital tasks. But despite the pivotal role scientific communication plays in society, communicating with the general public is not always prioritised among researchers. This is in part because although scientists tend to be great at doing the research and discovering results, they are not always so great at... Читать дальше...

Middle East doom and gloom dominates Rome conference

Times of Malta

When Italy organised a conference focused on the Middle East, the Gulf and North Africa, it promised to look beyond the turmoil roiling the region and instead promote a "positive agenda". Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, captured the gloom, bemoaning "a lack of wisdom" in the region, with "no hope" on hand for ordinary people hoping for an end to years of conflict... Hazard and Morata propel Chelsea to victory

Times of Malta

Two goals from Eden Hazard and one by Alvaro Morata earned Chelsea a workmanlike 3-1 Premier League victory over Newcastle United on Saturday. Dwight Gayle gave Rafa Benitez's Newcastle side a surprise lead, rattling his shot home in the 12th minute after Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois had dived at the feet of the advancing Jacob Murphy. But Chelsea, third in the table, quickly fought back, earning two corners and hitting the post before Hazard got on the end of a ball parried by defender Florian Lejeune in the 21st minute. No bin, no problem on this Birkirkara road

Times of Malta

Malta is hardly known for its neat and tidy pavements, but this stretch of sidewalk in Birkirkara is astounding even by local standards.  A Times of Malta reader took this photo of a pavement on Triq Ħal Qormi a few days ago.   The photo shows rubbish bags, sacks, cardboard boxes and polystyrene waste all vying for space around a barrel of tile offcuts. The rubbish pile-up appears to have encouraged pedestrian litterbugs, with empty chocolate wrappers, cigarette packets and water bottles dumped nearby. Читать дальше...

MEP findings add to country's concerns - Delia

Times of Malta

An MEP delegation which noted a "perception of impunity" during a fact-finding visit to Malta had further added to people's worries about the rule of law, Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia said on Saturday.  The delegation, Dr Delia noted, had ostensibly come to Malta to set the European Parliament's mind at ease about the situation in the country. But it left Malta more preoccupied than before.  Dr Delia told a PN councillors conference that the government was sticking its nose where the law did not allow it to... Читать дальше...

'Malta needs less cars, not more roads'

Times of Malta

Malta needs less cars not more roads to reduce the traffic problem, Alternattiva Demokratika has said. Speaking at a news conference in Attard, where a controversial new road is being planned, AD chairman Carmel Cacopardo said the new development would eat up agricultural land.  "This proves that not only does the government have no plan to resolve the traffic problem but it doesn't care about agriculture," he said, pointing out that a number of farmers actually relied on the land in question. Patients have different hospital outcomes when regular doctors see them

Times of Malta

Many outcomes for hospital patients – including how long they stay and their survival odds after they go home – may depend on whether or not they’re cared for by their primary care physician, a US study suggests. Researchers examined data on 560,651 admissions nationwide for patients covered by Medicare, the US health program for the elderly and disabled, who had a variety of common medical problems. Their hospital care was overseen by either their primary care physician, a hospitalist, or another generalist. Читать дальше...

'I've been objectified by men, it's not just women' - actor says
