Mosta battled more than expected to see off Division One side Mqabba 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium to reach the fourth round of the FA Trophy. Fund to back sustainability projects launched

A fund to assist voluntary organisations in sustainability projects has been set up by the government. Environment minister José Herrera said the fund, initially of €30,000, will be shared by organisations active in the social, economic and environmental fields whose projects contribute to the achievement of the Agenda 2030 sustainability targets. The government is still evaluating bids for a €16 million private-public partnership for the extension, maintenance and restoration of the Addolorata Cemetery over a year after the project was announced. Islamic State video shows Syrian pilot being burned alive

The Islamic State group has released a video allegedly showing a Syrian pilot the extremists captured more than a year ago being set on fire while alive. The video apparently showed Major Azzam Eid being chained to a tree while wearing a red uniform before being set on fire. The man could be heard screaming in pain before his body became charred.It was not clear when the killing occurred and IS did not give further details in the video. Traffic restrictions on Kappara bridge

The Gżira side of the Kappara junction bridge will be used for two-way traffic from Friday night as final works are made on the San Ġwann side of the project. The project's final works include the slip road to San Ġwann, final surfacing, and the roundabout beneath the bridge. Transport Malta reminded drivers that the area remained a construction site and urged careful driving, keeping within the speed limit of 30km/h.

German police defuse explosive device in Potsdam

German police defused an explosive device found in the city of Potsdam near Berlin on Friday, local police said on Twitter.   Police had cordoned off the Christmas market in Potsdam and the surrounding area and sent in special forces after being alerted about a suspicious object delivered to a pharmacy in the area. "The suspicion of an improvised explosive device has been confirmed," police said on Twitter. They later confirmed that the device had been successfully defused. No more information was available. ITS to move to former Air Malta offices for five years

The Institute for Tourism Studies is to temporarily move to the former Air Malta head offices in Luqa while a new campus is built in SmartCity, Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said this afternoon. Two men, on opposing sides in fight, win compensation for injuries

A boathouse owner, beaten with a two-metre iron chain by a neighbour after complaining about an inconvenience caused by dirty water collecting in a puddle outside his property, was awarded almost €6,000 in damages, while one of his opponents was awarded €8,190 after being punched in the face during the same incident. Mother and two children reported missing

MSE Equity Price Index rebounds from 15-month low

The MSE Equity Price Index moved higher for the first time in the last three trading sessions as it advanced by 0.74% from its near fifteen-month low of 4,391.091 points to 4,423.520 points. Handanovic signs new Inter contract

Samir Handanovic has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with Inter Milan.
