Somewhere in Bulgaria a solar farm or some other ‘mystery’ green project is being funded by Maltese taxpayers because the island is missing its emissions targets, The Sunday Times of Malta has learnt.   The issue dates back to 2007, when the EU first launched its 2020 targets, which entail Member States substantially reducing their greenhouse gases. Home equity release could be one way of helping to guarantee better living standards for the elderly, according to Mario Vella, the Governor of the Central Bank of Malta. Nearly three-quarters of businesses reported an increase of between 10 and 30 per cent in sales on Black Friday when compared to their normal daily sales. Nine per cent of businesses, who were responding to a survey by the Chamber of Small and Medium Businesses (GRTU), also said their sales were “much better” than last year’s on the day. A brewery in Ohio in the US is making a batch of green beer called Algae Blooms to draw attention to the toxic algae fouling Lake Erie. Maumee Bay Brewing Company said water was the main ingredient in its beers and access to clean water was essential. The Toledo firm uses the city's tap water sourced from Lake Erie, but algae outbreaks over recent summers have become a threat to drinking water. The Star Wars cast have praised the "irreplaceable" Carrie Fisher's last performance as Princess Leia as "extraordinary" ahead of the film's release. German authorities investigating the delivery of a package containing powerful firecrackers, wires and nails to a pharmacy near a Christmas market in the city of Potsdam said on Sunday it was criminal activity rather than "terrorism." As the official opening of Valletta 2018 – European Capital of Culture draws near, construction on Valletta’s two main projects, Triton Place and Is-Suq tal-Belt, will be completed “just in time”, The Sunday Times of Malta has learnt. The law had already become more lenient towards illegal parking in March when the government introduced a one-time warning system, turning a blind eye to illegal parking which does not cause obstruction. A corpse was retrieved from the sea off Anchor Bay at noon on Sunday, by a helicopter and patrol boat of the Armed Forces of Malta. The police said that the corpse was of a man who has not yet been identified. Investigations are underway.

Floriana is the latest Premier League team to opt for a coaching change after Giovanni Tedesco has left his post as coach of the Greens. A Bulgarian man and six women, five of them Moldovan and one from Bulgaria, have been jailed after pleading guilty to a number of charges in connection with a brothel which was operating from an apartment in Triq il-Molletta in Swieqi. It transpired that the man was taking care of the ‘administrative’ aspect of the business, while the women worked as prostitutes and shared the earnings together with him.
