Apple down on report of tepid iPhone X demand, suppliers fall

Wall Street's main indexes came under pressure on Tuesday following a 2.8 per cent drop in Apple's shares on a report of weak iPhone X demand. Apple will slash its sales forecast for its flagship phone in the current quarter to 30 million units, down from what it said was an initial plan of 50 million units, Taiwan's Economic Daily reported, citing unidentified sources. Jack Russell bites off more than he could chew

A Jack Russell had to be rushed to the vets after managing to glue its teeth together by chewing on a glossy leaflet. Oscar, aged 10, was stumbled upon by his owners looking extremely agitated and unable to open his mouth earlier this month. Nearby lay a chewed-up leaflet that had apparently been posted through the door of the family's Blackpool home. Five-year-old dies after choking on food - report

A five-year-old boy was taken off the life support machine on Christmas Eve some days after he choked while eating a sausage at his home Żabbar, according to a news report.  One News reported that the young boy started choking as he was eating right next to his mother who realised something was wrong as the colour in his face started changing. Quad bike pillion seriously injured

A 27-year-old girl from San Gwann was seriously injured when the quad bike on which she was riding pillion overturned. The driver - a 30-year-old man from Mosta - was only slightly injured. The accident took place at 9am on the Regional Road in St Julian's.

Saudi Arabia is hosting a world chess tournament for the first time nearly two years after the country's top cleric issued a religious edict against playing the board game. Politics have also interfered, with players from Israel and Qatar missing the tournament due to regional tensions. Egypt urges World Bank to intervene in dispute over Nile River dam

Egypt has said the World Bank should be brought in to resolve tensions with Ethiopia over a massive dam on the Nile River that Egypt says threatens its water security. Cairo's foreign minister Sameh Shoukry was speaking in Addis Ababa after a 10-month impasse over the dam's technical negotiations. Tuesday's talks also involve Sudan. €1.5 million road works project in Gozo announced

A €1.5 million road works project in Gozo was announced today by Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana. The minister said a number of roads which needed to be rebuilt were identified after meeting all Gozitan councils. Most roads were residential and the ministry, in agreement with the respective councils, felt the need to take action. She said this would not be the only investment on roads in 2018. A cat which disappeared three years ago has turned up safe and well in a different state. Raja was brought as a stray to an SPCA shelter in Georgetown, Delaware, where staff found his cat's microchip and through some sleuthing connected him to his owners, the Tuttle family. As it turns out, the Tuttles lost Raja back in 2014 when they were living in Florida. They now live in Virginia but travelled to Delaware to reclaim their prodigal feline.

Egypt hanged 15 men convicted of attacks that killed security forces in the Sinai Peninsula, security sources said on Tuesday, in what appears to be the largest number of executions on a single day since President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi took office in 2014. The hangings took place at two prisons in the north of the country early on Tuesday, the sources said. An experimental blood test accurately identifies people who do, or don’t, have celiac disease, even if they are following gluten-free diets, researchers say.
