Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah is in Malta for talks with Prime Minister Robert Abela. The Libyan leader arrived on Thursday evening and will be meeting Abela at the Auberge de Castille on Friday morning. German finance, justice ministries searched in fraud probe

Police on Thursday searched the German finance and justice ministries in connection with an investigation into hushed-up reports of money laundering, in a potentially damaging case ahead of this month's election. France grants citizenship to 12,000 foreign workers on Covid frontline

France has granted citizenship to over 12,000 foreign-born health workers, security guards, checkout assistants and other frontline workers to thank them for their services during the Covid crisis, the government said Thursday. Marlene Schiappa, junior interior minister in charge of citizenship, said over 16,000 people had applied for a French passport over the past year under a special scheme allowing workers in essential services to apply for citizenship after just two years in France, instead of the usual five. IHI and Lombard lift MSE Equity Price Index

The MSE Equity Price Index resurfaced above the 3,900 level as it rebounded by 0.34% to 3,905.002 points on the back of the gains in IHI and Lombard which outweighed the decline in BOV. Meanwhile, several other equities closed unchanged as overall trading activity improved to €0.28 million. In the retail banking sector, Lombard Bank Malta plc inched 1.1% higher to the €1.87 level as 17,300 shares changed hands whilst Bank of Valletta plc slipped by 1.1% to a 6-week low of €0.88 across heightened activity totalling 63,410 shares. Watch: Man shot, injured, following car crash in Iklin

Last updated 5.31pm A 55-year-old man from Naxxar was hospitalised after he was shot during an argument in Iklin on Thursday.   The incident took place shortly before 4pm on Triq il-Wied, the main road in the town. The police said an argument developed after a car crash and the victim was shot once in the right shoulder. He was found several metres down the road from where the two cars - a  Toyota Tercel and a Peugeot 208 - had collided. The alleged aggressor, a 24-year-old man from Iklin, has been arrested. Woman accused of slashing partner's chest with kitchen knife

A woman was remanded in custody on Thursday after pleading not guilty to slashing her partner’s chest with a kitchen knife after allegedly ignoring orders not to approach the man. A court heard that a tense argument allegedly broke out between the 46-year old cleaner and her partner late on Tuesday evening inside the couple’s Ħamrun residence. Man accused of injuring girlfriend granted bail

A man who allegedly injured his partner after discovering phone chats with other men was granted bail on Thursday after having been remanded in custody last month. The couple had been on a weekend break in Gozo when the incident happened. Tensions rise as UK says it will turn migrant boats back to France

Britain and France locked horns on Thursday over reported plans by London to turn back boats carrying migrants across the Channel, triggering alarm and anger in Paris. At least 14,100 people have now crossed the Channel to the UK on small boats this year, according to Britain's domestic Press Association news agency -- some 6,000 more than for the whole of 2020. EasyJet rejects takeover bid, plots $2.0bn lifeline

Three hurt in Gozo traffic accident

Two women and a man were injured in a collision involving three vehicles in Mġarr Road, Għajnsielem, on Thursday morning. The police said the crash, at about 8.30am, involved a 69-year-old man from Munxar who was driving a Leyland, a 52-year-old man from Għarb driving a Toyota Belta  and a Toyota Vitz driven by a 61-year-old woman from Sannat accompanied by an 81-year-old woman, also from Sannat. German football team stuck in Scotland after plane problem

The German football team were stranded for hours in Edinburgh on Thursday after the plane carrying them home from a World Cup qualifier in Iceland was forced into an unexpected landing. Germany cruised to a 4-0 win in Reykjavik on Wednesday to go four-points clear at the top of their group, but their plane ran into difficulties during the night flight to Frankfurt.
