Taxi strikes pedestrians near US airport

Multiple people are injured after a taxi struck pedestrians at Boston's Logan International Airport. Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio said the incident happened at the airport's "cab pool" area in East Boston. Police say several people were injured, some seriously. Video of the scene showed a white taxi with front end damage at rest against a building and near some picnic tables. The vehicle is surrounded by debris. Two-thirds of planning applications received last year decided

The Planning Authority will this year return a profit of €3 million for the first time, Parliamentary Secretary Chris Agius said. Speaking in Parliament, he said this was the fruit of efficiency and environmentally-friendly measures, as well as of the massive influx of planning applications received last year as a result of the current economic boom. Sebastian Vettel will face no further action from Formula One’s governing body following his deliberate collision with Lewis Hamilton at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Exploratory trade promotion mission to Ghana being organised

An exploratory trade promotion mission to Ghana for Malta based enterprises is being organised by the Trade Promotion Ministry and TradeMalta between July 25 and 28. Some 20 businesses have so far shown an interest to explore trade opportunities in West Africa. The mission, announced by Trade Promotion Minister Carmelo Abela, will coincide with a state visit to Ghana by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

The MSE Share Index eased marginally lower today to 4,694.936 points as the declines in IHI, Mapfre Middlesea and Malta Properties were largely offset by increases in the share prices of HSBC, MIA and RS2. Construction magnate Carmel Polidano, known as iċ-Ċaqnu, this morning pleaded not guilty of negligence after a five-year-old boy was hit and injured by a tiger at his controversial Montekristo Zoo. Cyclist, 72, hit by car in Żabbar

A 72-year-old cyclist from Żabbar was grievously injured today when he was hit by a car in his hometown. The police said the accident happened in Triq il-Kappuċċini at around noon. Pedestrian trapped between two parked cars

A 64-year-old man from Kalkara has been critically injured after he was trapped between two parked cars in an accident in Bir id-Deheb at 10am today. A Subaru Forester, being driven by a 46-year-old man from Għaxaq, crashed into a parked car, shunting it onto the car in front of it. WSC’s profits up to €6.3m as corporation eyes €100m in EU funding

The Water Services Corporation’s profits last year soared to €6.3 million while debts were down by €5.8 million, Water Minister Joe Mizzi told parliament today. Moving the corporation’s estimates, Mr Mizzi said debts had gone down by €30 million in four years and the government subsidy had decreased by €1.3 million. The 36-year-old defender ended a 22-year association with the Blues on Friday, making him a free agent on Saturday.
