Gay pride rally sees tight security as hundreds of thousands join Madrid event

Hundreds of thousands of people have been marching in a global gay pride demonstration in Madrid under tight security measures. Authorities reduced the traffic flow in the Spanish capital, banned heavy trucks and deployed 3,500 police in the city centre. However, there were no indications of planned attacks by extremist groups that have hit several European cities, said Spanish police. 12-metre 'Last Supper' billboard vandalised

A 12-metre “Last Supper” billboard by New York Best at the Msida skatepark has been vandalised with the image of Christ peeled off the poster. The billboard depicted Jesus Christ and his disciples eating a New York Best pizza, burgers and chips and drinking milkshakes. The artwork, designed by Daniel Mercieca, raised the ire of several people who were scandalised and even complained to the police asking for action to be taken. Sea Shepherd's Brigitte Bardot watched by AFM after jetski incident

Updated at 8.30pm An Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat that was sent out to sea to keep watch on the Sea Shepherd’s vessel Brigitte Bardot, which was observed close to the tuna fish farms, has returned to shore. The police said that that a jetski from the Bridgette Bardot crashed into a tuna pen that was being pulled by a boat. After a report was filed with the police and the army, the patrol boat was sent on site.  No further information is available at this time.

11th Kilimanjaro Challenge launched

The 11th Kilimanjaro Challenge which will see 20 people going up the mountain at the end of this year in a bid to raise money to help an Ethiopian community was launched today. Over the past 10 years, more than €700,000 were collected through the challenge for nine projects in Kenya and Ethiopia, all of were orchestrated by the ‘Missionary Movement Jesus in Thy Neighbour’, founded by Fr George Grima. Swedish music festival cancels 2018 event after rape reported

A Swedish music festival that saw performances by Kanye West, Robbie Williams and Iron Maiden has cancelled 2018's event after a rape was reported. The Bravalla Festival in Norrkoping, southern Sweden, says the decision was made after the report yesterday. Swedish police have reported 11 cases of sexual abuse and one rape at the July 28-July 1 festival. The festival said it attempted to prevent rapes and sexual abuses but "some men - because we are talking about men - apparently can't behave. It's a shame." The festival... Читать дальше...

Girl, 14, hit by car in Naxxar

A 14-year-old Russian girl was grievously injured today when she was hit by a car in Naxxar. The police said the accident happened along the Coast Road at 3.45pm. The car was being driven by a 39-year-old woman from Mġarr. The girl was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. An inquiry is being held.

EU Presidency: 'A fantastic experience’ has come to an end – PM

Malta’s EU presidency was a “fantastic experience” for all the country, from the taxi driver to the experts at the negotiating table, Joseph Muscat said. In a short video message posted on the official presidency Facebook wall, the Prime Minister yesterday said the country should be proud of what it had achieved over the past six months. The Prime Minister’s message came on the back of a glowing appraisal of Malta’s six-month stint at the helm of the Council of the European Union by the Brussels-based Politico online news magazine. Cycling for cancer research

Following more than 250 hours of training, 46 cyclists will next week set off on a 1,200-kilometre ride from Denmark to Poland to raise funds for cancer research. The group leaves Malta on July 7, and then cycle from Copenhagen to Warsaw, passing through Berlin, in Germany, and covering some 170kms every day. As in previous years, the Remax Alive 2017 Cycling Challenge will be raising funds for medical research in Malta. Several injured in Arkansas nightclub shooting

At least 17 people have been injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Little Rock, Arkansas. Police said via Twitter that the shooting early this morning at the Power Lounge appears to have taken place following a dispute at a concert. Officers said all 17 shooting victims are alive, with one victim who was previously listed in a critical condition now stable Police do not believe the incident is terror-related, and said it does not involve an active shooter.

Pichiku the tiny titi monkey thriving thanks to constant care from zookeepers

A tiny red titi monkey has survived against the odds thanks to round-the-clock care from zookeepers since the hour he was born. His mum, Bella, died after giving birth and over the past four weeks, a dedicated team of keepers at Bristol Zoo have fed him day and night to keep him alive. And now the little monkey, named Pichiku, is thriving. The zoo is believed to be only the second in the country to have succeeded in hand-rearing a titi monkey to this stage. The Attard local council is set to appeal against the proposed development of buildings as high as 17.5 metres on a large area of virgin land at the edge of the development boundaries, mayor Stefan Cordina said this morning. Ukraine points finger at Russian security services in recent cyber attack

Ukraine said on Saturday that the Russian security services were involved in a recent cyber attack that hit Ukraine, saying the aim was to destroy important data and spread panic. The SBU, Ukraine's state security service, said the attack, which started in Ukraine and spread around the world on Tuesday, was by the same hackers who attacked the Ukrainian power grid in December 2016. Barcelona have activated the buy-back clause in Everton forward Gerard Deulofeu’s contract. The Spain Under-21 captain was not part of Everton boss Ronald Koeman’s plans last season and spent the campaign on loan at Milan.
