Indonesia executes four drug traffickers

The Indonesian government has executed four drug traffickers, giving a reprieve of uncertain duration to 10 others it had said would also be put to death. One Indonesian and three Nigerians were executed by firing squad not long after midnight local time, deputy attorney-general Noor Rachmad said. Facebook agrees to refunds on in-app purchases by minors in US

Facebook has agreed to allow users to request refunds of in-app purchases made by minors as part of a settlement of a class action lawsuit, court documents in the US show. The lawsuit was brought in 2012 by two children and their parents. It claimed the children racked up hundreds of dollars in purchases of Facebook Credits, a since-discontinued currency used by the site. Two injured in Mqabba accident

Updated at 8.30pm The condition of the 67-year-old man from Żebbuġ who was in a critical condition following a collision in Mqabba this afternoon has improved and he is no longer in danger of losing his life, the police said. They said said that the accident in Triq tas-Sebja, took place at 4.30pm. The man was driving a car that was involved in a collision with another car driven by a 21-year-old woman from Żurrieq. Smart City hit by foul smell from Laguna fountain

Diners at restaurants situated along the Laguna Walk at Smart City were in for a shock recently when they were met with a foul smell coming from the fountains all along the lagoon, this newspaper has learnt. Worker falls from scaffolding in Kirkop

A Syrian worker was grievously injured this afternoon when he fell from a height of around two metres while working on a scaffolding. The police said the incident happened in Triq il-Lewżiet, Kirkop, at around 1pm. An ambulance took the victim to hospital.



NSO calculator to predict changes to economy

A new tool offered by the National Statistics Office allows researchers to forecast the effect on local industries of a sudden increase in tourists or the assumed impact of Brexit, among other things. The NSO has published what are known as the “supply, use and input-output” tables, which show the links between 128 product and 84 industry groups. French officials identify second church attacker from DNA

French officials have identified the second man involved in the murder of a priest in a Normandy church during morning Mass. The French prosecutor's office said he was Abdel-Malik Nabil Petitjean, 19, from eastern France. He was spotted last month in Turkey as he supposedly headed to Syria but returned to France instead. Spanish couple fight for permission to name newborn son 'Wolf'

A couple in Spain have started an online petition after officials refused to let them call their newborn son the Spanish word for Wolf. The father, Nako Javierre, said in a letter with the petition that he and his wife Maria decided on the name because of "our love for this animal." But he says the Fuenlabrada registry office in Madrid this month refused to accept the name because it could be "offensive" for their son. New fire engines for CPD

Three new fire-engines were inaugurated at the Civil Protection Department this morning following an investment of €360,000. The vehicles can be operateed on any road surface including in rural areas.During the inauguration ceremony, two deputy directors, eight station officers and seven leading and assistance officers were appointed. Man in custody after allegedly hitting another with stone

A Marsa open centre resident was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to hitting another Somalian with a stone in his face. The victim who suffered grievous injuries required several of stitches on his forehead, the court heard. The incident happened on July 13 at a Marsa playground. Yesterday’s uplift in the share index was short-lived as the index eased 0.10 per cent lower today to 4,461.652 points. Out of the nine actively traded equities, only FIMBank finished higher as it advanced by 1.5 per cent to the $1.01,5 across 20,000 shares. Taiwan's temple factory

A factory in Taiwan could be the answer to a prayer, building ready-made temples which can be delivered to customers in just weeks.   The plant in Pingtung county makes up to 20 temples at a time complete with the desired deities also cast in concrete. The factory employs about 100 people, many of whom are local farmers coming in part time.  One of thetemples can cost anything from $1250 to more than $62,000. The owners of a Birkirkara garage whose roof collapsed due to bad workmanship in an overlying tenement by an unlicensed stone mason have been awarded €17,500 in compensation by a court. The case dates back to February 7, 2006 when a construction worker, Clive Micallef, 23, was lucky to escape with only abrasions after the roof of a house he was working in St Mary Street collapsed. Falling stone crashes through parked car's windscreen

A large stone fell a height of two storeys and crashed through the windscreen of a parked car in Qui-si-Sana, fortunately injuring no one. The incident happened yesterday in Dragut Point Street during renovation work. The case was reported to the police by the owner of the car, a Fiat Punto, who said the dashboard was also damaged.  People commenting on Facebook pointed out that there had been No Parking signs for the spot, but others said the date on it was wrong.
