In the immediate aftermath of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, there was a fevered pitch to ban bump stocks, the device that allowed the shooter's semi-automatic rifles to mimic the rapid fire of machine guns. With that push stalled at the federal level, a handful of states and some cities are moving ahead with bans of their own.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Maria Menounos believes in equal pay for equal work, but feels the situation with her former E! News colleague Catt Sadler is a bit more complicated. Sadler left the network late last year after learning that her on-air partner Jason Kennedy made nearly twice as much money as she did. She said she had to take a stand. While sympathetic, Menounos said simply paying everyone the same isn't always feasible. She cited NBA superstar LeBron James, who earns much more than many of his teammates. Читать дальше...

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey's attorney general has rejected a proposal for use of state-controlled land for a $1.1 billion natural gas pipeline. Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in a letter Friday that PennEast was "patently misleading" when it referenced, in a separate letter, multiple attempts at negotiating over the use of the land. Grewal says the state has had no communication on specific property rights. The denial means that for now anyway, PennEast has not yet acquired rights for all... Читать дальше...
WASHINGTON (AP) — A wave of fear about inflation and higher interest rates has sent stock prices tumbling and raised concerns about corporate profits. Yet the rush of anxiety has obscured a fundamental fact about the U.S. economy: It's healthy. Nearly nine year into the expansion that followed the Great Recession, the job market is strong. So is housing. Consumer confidence is solid, and manufacturing is rebounding. Households and businesses are spending freely. Personal debt has lightened since the financial crisis a decade ago. Читать дальше...
