Three major radio stations have purchased the multi-city local news site the Gothamist, and it's not clear what this could mean for its Bay Area site, SFist. WNYC (New York), KPCC (Southern California) and WAMU (Washington, D.C.) announced Friday that they have joined together to acquire key assets of Gothamist and its LAist and DCist sites. FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) — Farmington police is increasing its presence in the city's public schools in the wake of last week's mass shooting at a Florida school. Farmington Municipal School District officials announced Friday that uniformed officers and even police Chief Steve Hebbe will make unannounced visits to schools. Officers will walk through the campus and engage with students and faculty. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Police have charged a man in the shooting death of another man last year near a Des Moines elementary school. Des Moines police said in a news release Friday that detectives arrested 19-year-old Jahmar Saheim Mustin, of West Des Moines, charging him with first-degree murder and criminal gang participation in the May death of 23-year-old Choice Elliston. An alleged “drug house” in San Francisco’s Castro District caught fire Friday morning, and investigators believe arson to be the cause.
