A replica of an ostrich egg globe which was reportedly carved by Leonardo Da Vinci will be coming to Malta later this month. Dating back to 1504, the globe, which was carved on two separate halves of an ostrich egg, features one of the earliest depictions of North America or the ‘New World’. Two injured in fall from scaffolding at Rabat church

Two men were injured on Saturday afternoon after falling from scaffolding while working at a church in Rabat.  Police said the two, a 61-year old Dingli resident and a 57-year old Rabat resident, fell from a height of around two metres at the church in Triq San Pawl, at around 9.30am.  The 57-year old sustained grievous injuries and was hospitalised for further treatment. The 61-year old received treatment at a health centre.  Police investigations are ongoing. 

MFSA refuses to release ‘privileged’ documents in US case over Pilatus

Malta’s financial regulator has refused to authorise the release of legally “privileged” documents in a US case opened by Pilatus Bank’s parent company. Alpene Limited is seeking documentation to bolster its claim that Pilatus Bank was wrongfully shuttered by regulators in response to the arrest of bank owner and chairman Ali Sadr. Hyundai celebrates 35th anniversary of the Grandeur with electric restomod

Hyundai is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the classic Grandeur flagship saloon by creating a ‘retro-futuristic restomod’. The concept uses the same boxy design as the original car from 1986, but gets a new electric powertrain and a series of technological updates. Parks Malta to plant 1,500 trees after valley clean-up initiative

More than 1,500 trees will be planted in different valleys after a months-long clean-up initiative led by Parks Malta together with various NGOs, local councils and other entities. A man has been cleared of causing the death of an elderly pedestrian who was killed as he crossed back to his car after stopping to buy some ‘imqaret’ from a kiosk on the Rabat road.  The incident occurred twelve years ago, one November morning in 2009 as the driver, Robert Micallef, was heading down road towards Attard. Man, 71, dies while COVID positive as 59 new cases recorded

A 71-year old man died while COVID-19 positive in the past day, becoming Malta's 463rd pandemic victim. He is the first person to die while infected with the virus in three weeks. The positive streak had led to Malta ranking best in Europe in terms of elderly COVID deaths for the past weeks. The man's death was registered on a day when health authorities reported 59 new virus cases, down from the 79 new cases reported on Friday.
