Taiwanese chip giant TSMC will partner with Sony on a new $7 billion (€6bn) plant in Japan, the firms announced on Tuesday, as an ongoing global semiconductor shortage squeezes the production of everything from cars to TVs and gaming consoles. Man sued by victim secretly filmed having sex fails to revoke garnishee order

A man whose property has been hit by precautionary warrants since 2008 after being sued for damages by a woman who was secretly filmed having sex when still a minor has failed in his bid to release his cash from the clutches of a garnishee order.  In January, the man was one of three respondents ordered jointly to pay €32,656 to the victim in damages for the psychological trauma suffered on account of the ordeal she had faced some 15 years earlier when still an underage girl. Paralympian ‘insulted’ by court judgment

Paralympian swimmer Vladyslava Kravchenko has described as an “insult” a judge’s decision to retry a company director found guilty of the collapse of a structure that paralysed her and injured others in 2008. Kravchenko’s life changed dramatically when she was just 17, after the former gymnast suffered a spinal cord injury when a lighting structure fell on her during a party in Qawra. Julian Pace Bonello has been reconfirmed as president of the Maltese Olympic Committee after collecting the highest number of votes in an election during the Elective General Assembly of the local governing body of elite sport. For Pace Bonello this is set to be his third term at the helm of the Maltese Olympic Committee after he had succeeded the late Lino Farrugia Sacco, who incidentally passed away last week, in 2013. Moderna seeks EU approval of COVID vaccine for kids aged 6-11

Moderna has applied to the European Union's medicine regulator for approval of its COVID-19 vaccine for children aged six to 11, the US biotechnology company announced Tuesday. The dosage for the two injections administered four weeks apart has been adjusted to 50 micrograms, compared with the 100 micrograms for shot recipients in older age groups. Toshiba to split business into three: The Nikkei report

Toshiba plans to split into three companies as early as 2023, a report said on Tuesday, after a series of crises at the firm, including the ouster of the board’s chairman and a contentious buyout offer. Five report being hit with gunshot pellets

Five people reported having been hit by gunshot pellets fired by hunters this year, according to the police. This marked a sharp increase compared to six reports of the same nature filed in the previous five years. Heavy traffic reported in central Malta

Traffic was at a standstill across central Malta on Tuesday, with drivers reporting lengthy delays on key routes. Transport Malta motorcyclist injured in Marsa-Ħamrun bypass accident

A 34-year-old motorcyclist was treated in hospital on Tuesday after a traffic accident at the Marsa-Ħamrun bypass. Police said the accident happened at around 3.45pm. A motorcyclist, who is a Transport Malta official, was involved in a collision with a Fiat car that was being driven by a 60-year-old man from Lija. The victim's condition is not yet known.

Just over a third of the works on the new Kirkop tunnels and Airport Intersection Project have been completed, Infrastructure Malta said on Tuesday.
