From the bench: penalties and the law

Times of Malta

Penalties in agreements are a common clause, especially in typical contracts of works (appalt) or where the parties agree on a specific performance, especially when such performance is assigned a due date. The law allows the imposition of penalties but seeks to create a fair balance in the sense that they remain in check to reflect the obligation in question and the monetary value. Indeed, obligations with a penalty clause are regulated by 1118 et seq of the Civil Code. By definition, and according to law... Читать дальше...

‘Kes’ reviewed: the soaring hopes of those unvalued

Times of Malta

The rise of the teenager may have seen its start in the 1950s, but those teens with angry young men for their fathers developed into angsty young men a decade later. And they, in turn, left their mark, already bearing echoes of Salinger’s earlier Holden Caulfield from the ’50s, upon their own offspring in the 1960s. Barry Hines explored the angst of teenage years coupled with poverty, misunderstanding and the feeling of being helplessly undervalued in his 1969 novel A Kestrel for a Knave. This was soon adapted into a film... Читать дальше...

Malta’s complacency and discontent take centre stage

The play opened Spazju Kreattiv’s theatre season for 2021-2022 after being commissioned to be written by Lara Calleja, winner of the 2021 European Prize for Literature. Directed by Lee-N Abela...
