Two men on a kayaking trip for charity around Sicily should be completing their Kayak for Charity challenge and arriving home in a few days. Albert Gambina and Dorian Vassallo left Malta on their 1026.88-kilometre journey on July 24 at 5am. Serbian cave hermit gets COVID-19 jab, urges others to follow

Almost twenty years ago, Panta Petrovic made social distancing a lifestyle choice when he moved into a tiny Serbian mountain cave to avoid society. Last year, on one of his visits to town, the dreadlocked man with a long beard found out there was a pandemic raging. Soya-based cream, more ice creams latest recalls due to ethylene oxide

Updated 6.35pm Provamel’s soya-based cream is the latest product to be recalled by the health authorities because of the potential presence of ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not permitted for use in foods sold in the EU but is approved for use by other countries. Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an immediate risk to health, there is an increased risk if there is continued consumption of this chemical in contaminated foods over a long period of time, the health authorities said. 51 new COVID cases, 53 recoveries

A total of 51 people tested positive for COVID overnight, while a further 53 recovered. No deaths linked to the virus were reported over the past 24 hours, meaning Malta now has 641 active COVID cases. Uganda suspends 54 NGOs including prominent rights group

The Ugandan government announced on Friday it had halted the activities of 54 non-governmental organisations, a major escalation of its efforts to tighten control over civil society.
