Africa health chief says jabs helped him survive COVID-19

Government to give financial compensation to former officer Simon Schembri

Simon Schembri, a former police sergeant who lost his arm in a hit-and-run in May 2018, is to be financially compensated by the government. Schembri retired from the force in February, having completed 25 years of service. Qatar Airways 'ordered' to ground 13 Airbus planes

Qatar Airways said on Thursday that it had been ordered by regulators in the Gulf state to ground 13 of its Airbus A350 aircraft over the rapid degradation of fuselage surfaces. The airline, one of the Gulf "big three" carriers, previously stopped accepting delivery of the aircraft over the issue, according to media reports in June. Turkish boys will see jailed mothers today

Two young Turkish boys will today be able to see their mothers in person again, eight days after being separated when a court jailed the women for six months for using forged travel documents. Akif Yavuz, who turns three next week, and Sina Deneri, 4, will be reunited with their “anne” – the Turkish word for “mummy” – for several hours today. Malta's COVID-19 infection rate drops for first time in weeks, EU agency says

Malta's COVID-19 infection rate has dropped for the first time since mid-June to become the eighth-highest rate in Europe, according to the EU's disease centre. In their weekly update, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) confirmed Malta's infection rate stood at 354.28 cases per 100,000 inhabitants last week, down from 490.1 and 379 in the previous two weeks.  The ECDC's rates are worked out from the previous weeks’ figures. British police said on Thursday they had arrested 11 people suspected of sending racist messages on social media to England players after last month’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy.
