Suspected second case of Ebola in Ivory Coast

The UN health agency said on Tuesday that a second suspected case of infection by the deadly Ebola virus had been detected in Ivory Coast. World Health Organization (WHO) spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said that as of Monday, there had been one confirmed and one suspected case, with nine contacts identified so far. No deaths have been reported. Taliban hindering evacuation of Afghans: German minister

Taliban checkpoints around Kabul airport are blocking Afghans from accessing the terminal, making it difficult for the West to evacuate local staff who worked for Western forces, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Tuesday. "The Taliban has set up checkpoints everywhere in the city and have the entire area and the airport surroundings in their hands," said Maas at a press conference. Prisoner dies eight days after suicide attempt that sparked inquiry

Updated 6.30pm with PN statement A prisoner has died in hospital, eight days after his attempted suicide sparked an inquiry into mental health procedures in prison.   Colin Galea died at Mater Dei on Tuesday, his heartbroken brother confirmed in a Facebook post. Deaths, injuries as Turkish air raid hits Iraq clinic

A Turkish air raid hit a clinic in northern Iraq on Tuesday, resulting in fatalities and injuries, local officials and an Iraqi military officer said. The raid "totally destroyed" a clinic located in Sinjar, the district's deputy mayor Jalal Khalef Bisso told AFP. He said that there were "deaths and injuries," but did not provide an immediate toll. Average Maltese is 30 years old when they leave parents' home

A new survey has confirmed the Maltese are among the oldest in the EU to leave the parental home, and they do it well into adulthood. In 2020, the average Maltese person flew the nest at 30.2, the third oldest among member states and roughly four years above the EU average, according to the latest data from Eurostat. A youth who admitted to damaging vehicles parked at Ta’ Xbiex, after walking over them while in a drunken state early on Monday morning, was granted bail after promising to reimburse the victims. Lucas Dylan Haristov Labaquere, a 21-year old French national due to leave Malta on Sunday, landed in hot water following the drunken episode which occurred along Enrico Mizzi Street at around 5am. 54 new COVID-19 cases, two more deaths reported

Fifty-four new COVID-19 cases were reported on Tuesday as another two elderly patients died after having been diagnosed with the virus.  The number of virus patients in hospital dropped to 41 from 43 on Monday.
