Women’s football legend Carolina Morace is set to coach Malta women duo Emma Lipman and Rachel Cuschieri at Lazio. The announcement came from the club after Lazio’s 1-0 defeat to Ravenna in their 12th Serie B fixture of the season. Walking around her new office just a few days after her appointment, Commissioner for Disability Samantha Pace Gasan is determined to send a clear message to society: people with disability deserve to work too. The 27-year-old was appointed commissioner earlier this month, taking over from Oliver Scicluna who is now an MP. Israel said Sunday it would send 5,000 coronavirus vaccine shots to the Palestinian Authority to inoculate medical personnel, following global pressure to ensure Palestinians are vaccinated. The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta has announced that it has successfully bid to host the qualification matches for the Men’s Under 15 European Championships. These will take place in Malta between March 26 and 28. The championships, which are a biennial event, will be held under the auspices of Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN).  Four Groups of qualifying events will take place in Croatia, Poland, Czech Republic and Malta. Malta’s decision to oppose plans to introduce an obligatory EU-wide adequate minimum wage has been met with concern by activist group Moviment Graffitti.  The NGO said the government’s opposition to the European Commission’s plan was “alarming”, given that the local minimum wage was already “strikingly low”.  Malta said on Friday that it had joined eight other EU member states in writing to the European Commission to urge it to downgrade its plans to introduce a minimum wage directive, making that a recommendation instead. A total of 182 new COVID-19 cases were recorded between Saturday and Sunday, as another two virus patients died. The victims were a 63-year-old woman and a 78-year-old man. Both died at Mater Dei Hospital, the Health Ministry said.  Their deaths bring the number of people who died while infected with COVID-19 to 267. Statistics released by the ministry also showed that 185 people recovered overnight, meaning there were 2,676 known active cases of COVID-19 in Malta as of 12.30pm on Sunday. [attach... A gate blocking access to the idyllic Fomm ir-Riħ bay was placed there by developers' lobby president Sandro Chetcuti, who owns the massive tract of land behind it leading to the sea.  The gate was removed last Friday following a public outcry, but the Environment Ministry has indicated that the removal is only temporary and that it will return once the landowner obtains a permit for it.  Malta Today reported on Sunday that the land in question is owned by Malta Developers' President Sandro Chetcuti. Residents of a street once surrounded by fields in Swieqi are still battling a 30-year-old flooding problem, claiming works being done have not prevented the road from turning into a river every time it rains. Garages and basements in Triq it-Tiben are constantly flooded but residents say their appeals for Infrastructure Malta to install water culverts have been unheeded. The European Asylum Support Office headquartered in Valletta has received several reports from migrants detained at the Lyster and Safi barracks of physical torture, beatings, solitary confinement, denial or delay of medical care and, in some cases, electrocution.
