Times of Malta

Bruno Fernandes’s stunning free-kick inflicted more misery on Liverpool as Manchester United progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a thrilling 3-2 win at Old Tafford on Sunday. Both sides struggled to create chances in a cagey 0-0 draw when they met in the Premier League last weekend. The Association of Magistrates and Judges of Malta said that while video conferencing has been rolled out in some court rooms, operating them in every hall was still too difficult to coordinate in the bustling Valletta courthouse. The association was contacted after the lack of video conferencing for witnesses was raised by doctors. Читать дальше...

Last week, Prime Minister Robert Abela tabled a report in parliament that took a close look at the construction industry and found what it described as “deep-rooted problems” across the board. The government had commissioned the report after a house adjacent to a construction site collapsed early last March, causing the death of Miriam Pace. Abela did not initially intend to publish the report, saying the recommendations were gradually being implemented. But he reversed his decision after the Pace... Читать дальше...

They are calling for clarity and peace of mind, following sacrifices they have been facing since March. Since the rollout started slowly this year, in what has become a fight for the vaccine, anyone from teachers to bank employees, the maritime industry and healthcare students in contact... Times of Malta

The final months of 2020 were Malta’s deadliest in years, with a steep rise in mortality linked to the growing number of COVID-19 deaths, figures show. Figures published last week by Eurostat, the EU’s statistical body, showed Malta registering 37.5% more deaths in November than the average in the same month of the previous four years. The increase was slightly lower in September and October – 22.2 and 21.1% respectively – but starting in July, Malta’s additional deaths were consistently above the EU average. Читать дальше...

"I want to have a legal referendum, that is what... Читать дальше...

Bernard Grech slams PBS use by the government as ‘partisan’ tool

Times of Malta

Opposition leader Bernard Grech on Sunday slammed the use of the national broadcaster PBS as a "partisan" tool in the hands of the government.  Speaking at a political activity in Nadur, Grech said that instead of closing media stations owned by political parties, the real battle was to ensure PBS fulfilled its role as an impartial public broadcaster.  He criticised what he described as a “blatant partisan interview” he was invited to on PBS last week.  During the interview, Grech pointed out to... The lady with psychic powers

Times of Malta

Some people have powers, although they may be loath to admit it to others. From an early age, it is clear that they are more sensitive to spirits and that they can perceive things – even things from the past – that the rest of us cannot. Betty was definitely psychic. At the tender age of 16, she went on a school trip to a stately home. As soon as she walked in, she knew her way around, even though she assured her teachers that she had never been there before. They all assumed that she may have seen the home on television or read about it... Читать дальше...

No Europe deaths directly tied to COVID-19 jabs

Times of Malta

Despite dozens of deaths of people shortly after they were vaccinated against coronavirus, scientists say the evidence available so far does not incriminate the new anti-COVID vaccines. Health agencies stress however that the vast majority of post-vaccination fatalities were elderly, already vulnerable and often sick. Here's a review of the situation: Elderly, vulnerable Norway sparked alarm last week when it reported the deaths of 33 of some 20,000 retirement home residents who had received a first shot of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. Formative assessment practice in online teaching and learning

Times of Malta

The current pandemic has forced a sudden change in the provision of certain services. This has required the service providers to think of, and start operating in, a new normality. Education is one of these services. Educators, with the support of their school administration and the various departments at the Ministry for Education, had to shift overnight to online teaching and learning. This was an unprecedented change in the compulsory education sector, as online teaching and learning is more associated with further and higher education. Читать дальше...

'Don't impose a curfew but regulate private gatherings'

Times of Malta

It is unjust to call for measures that will further impinge on the operation of catering establishments and their livelihood, the Association of Catering Establishments (ACE) said on Sunday. Referring to calls by doctors on Friday for a weekend curfew as they sounded the alarm over the flow of COVID-19 patients to Mater Dei hospital, the ACE said there is no scientific evidence so far that the increase in the spread of COVID-19 is in any way related to catering establishments respecting the protocols in place.
