Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has been promoted to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team coaching staff. Fletcher returned to Old Trafford last October to take up a coaching role with United’s under-16 squad. The 36-year-old will now step in to help with Solskjaer’s side on a full-time basis. Updated 7.45pm with KSU's statement The Faculty of Economics' decision to fail first-year commerce students over proof of exam "collusion" is "unjust" according to the students' council KSU. It has been reported that the faculty informed students they will receive no marks for Progress Test 1, after it transpired that some of them cheated their way through two tests that form part of one study unit. Malta international Haley Bugeja has continued to prove her star quality after being named one of ten players to watch in the women’s game by UEFA on Monday. French goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier’s contract has been terminated by Saint-Etienne four months after he was suspended for insubordination, the Ligue 1 club announced on Monday. Les Verts’ former captain Ruffier, 34, last featured for the side in February and was banned for six days in July for turning up late to training. Scotland is to impose a nationwide coronavirus lockdown for the rest of January because of a surge in cases, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on Monday. A 17-year-old boy has been remanded in custody after driving dangerously without a license and threatening two people. In a statement on Monday, police said the teenager, from Qala, was charged with breaching the peace and threatening two people on Sunday at around 00.15am. He was also accused of driving recklessly along Triq Wied is-Simar, Qala, and other roads the previous day, and breaching probation conditions.  He pleaded not guilty but was remanded in custody. The European Commission said on Monday that its COVID-19 vaccine strategy will get the EU past "bumps on the road" that have slowed a roll-out of jabs across the bloc. A 31-year-old Turkish man was grievously injured while unloading a truck in Victoria. The police said the incident took place at around 11am on Triq l-Ewropa. The man was unloading items from a truck when he slid off the vehicle. He was rushed to the Gozo General Hospital. Investigations are ongoing.

A New Year’s Eve brawl in Paceville has fuelled the impression of St Julian's being a “wild west”, the town's mayor has said, while calling for arraignments as soon as possible. Singapore and neighbouring Malaysia have scrapped plans for a high-speed rail line after failing to agree on changes, finally abandoning a costly and long-troubled project. A hospital in Warsaw is under fire for giving out Covid-19 vaccine shots to celebrities and politicians, causing public outrage and sparking a government investigation that began on Monday. Poland, which like much of Europe began its vaccination campaign on December 27, is currently only supposed to be vaccinating medical workers under a government plan. The head of the civil service has warned government departments to keep teleworking in place after an MEP claimed some staff were being ordered back to their desks despite a rise in COVID-19 cases. The number of new COVID-19 cases crept up to 148 on Monday, the highest since 152 cases were detected on November 26. The health ministry said 2915 swab tests were made in the past 24 hours and 111 patients had recovered, leaving 1,622 active cases. The man who dedicated over 60 years of his life to ensuring people’s musical tastes were catered for has died – passing on the enduring baton of D’Amato Records, dubbed the world’s oldest record store. Described as a “pillar of the family business”, his son with the same name, said Anthony D’Amato was “taken away from us too fast, too soon”. Former Bond actress and That '70s Show star Tanya Roberts has died in Los Angeles at the age of 65, media reports said. Roberts, who had been hospitalised since December 24 after she collapsed while walking her dogs, died on Sunday, her publicist Mike Pingel told The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm devastated.
