UK Prime Minister announces England-wide lockdown

French goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier’s contract has been terminated by Saint-Etienne four months after he was suspended for insubordination, the Ligue 1 club announced on Monday. Scotland is to impose a nationwide coronavirus lockdown for the rest of January because of a surge in cases, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on Monday. Teenager remanded in custody after driving without license, threatening people

A 17-year-old boy has been remanded in custody after driving dangerously without a license and threatening two people. In a statement on Monday, police said the teenager, from Qala, was charged with breaching the peace and threatening two people on Sunday at around 00.15am. He was also accused of driving recklessly along Triq Wied is-Simar, Qala, and other roads the previous day, and breaching probation conditions.  He pleaded not guilty but was remanded in custody. EU defends its slow vaccine roll-out

The European Commission said on Monday that its COVID-19 vaccine strategy will get the EU past "bumps on the road" that have slowed a roll-out of jabs across the bloc. Man injured after falling off truck

A 31-year-old Turkish man was grievously injured while unloading a truck in Victoria. The police said the incident took place at around 11am on Triq l-Ewropa. The man was unloading items from a truck when he slid off the vehicle. He was rushed to the Gozo General Hospital. Investigations are ongoing.

A hospital in Warsaw is under fire for giving out Covid-19 vaccine shots to celebrities and politicians, causing public outrage and sparking a government investigation that began on Monday. The number of new COVID-19 cases crept up to 148 on Monday, the highest since 152 cases were detected on November 26. The health ministry said 2915 swab tests were made in the past 24 hours and 111 patients had recovered, leaving 1,622 active cases.
