Tunisian authorities have arrested more than 600 people and deployed troops after a third consecutive night of riots, mostly by young people in working-class districts of several cities. Doctors have been treating fewer patients with common colds and seasonal influenza this year with experts crediting mitigation measures to keep COVID-19 at bay as having an impact on people’s overall health. Relegation battlers Lija Athletic have made a high-profile signing in midfielder Walter Serrano. Serrano, 34, is an experienced midfielder having played over 100 games between the Argentine top-tier and first-tier. Some 40 per cent of COVID-19 patients who were admitted into the intensive therapy unit at Mater Dei Hospital and placed on a ventilator died last year.  The numbers were tabled in parliament on Monday by Health Minister Chris Fearne in response to a question asked by independent MP Godfrey Farrugia.  A total of 99 people were admitted to the ITU in 2020, 40 of whom died, according to the figures.  The largest amount of people who were admitted to the ITU and placed on a ventilator was registered in October... A young woman identified as having taken part in the storming of the US Capitol reportedly stole a laptop belonging to top Democrat Nancy Pelosi and hoped to sell it to a Russian spy agency, according to an FBI criminal complaint. The complaint, filed in the US District Court in Washington, seeks the arrest of Riley June Williams of Pennsylvania on grounds including "violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds." The Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) has fined the contractor digging two trenches into the concrete quay at Balluta, St Julian’s, because a silt curtain was not used. A spokesman for the regulator said the infringement, found following an investigation, breached conditions in the environment permit it had issued. Objectors to the approved ferry service at Balluta Bay, St Julian’s, have filed a constitutional case challenging the impartiality and independence of the appeals tribunal that is hearing the case.  They argued that the tribunal was chaired by a Planning Authority employee, raising doubt over the right to be judged by an impartial tribunal.  Moviment Graffitti and independent candidate Arnold Cassola are among the objectors to a new hop-on-hop-off ferry service at Balluta Bay, which they insist would ruin a top bathing zone in the area. The price of purchasing Maltese residency is set to more than double, as the government seeks to make more cash to finance the country’s post-COVID-19 recovery.  A new version of Malta’s residency program will be set up in the coming weeks following legal amendments that are expected to be tabled in Parliament on Monday evening.  Residency gives third-country nationals the right to live in Malta and spend up to 90 out of 180 consecutive days in other EU countries. A court has revoked permission for former prime minister Joseph Muscat and his wife, Michelle, to participate in a perjury case against former FIAU manager Jonathan Ferris.  The couple were previously granted 'parte civile' status, which allows a lawyer to represent them in court as an injured party in the case.  However that status was revoked on Monday by Magistrate Marseann Farrugia who ruled that the permission could not have been granted by a magistrate who then proceeded to abstain from hearing the case. Nationalist Party MPs started being called in for a meeting with leader Bernard Grech on Monday as a reshuffle of their duties is under way.  Sources said each of the PN's 28 MPs was holding one-on-one meetings with the new PN leader at the party headquarters, with the process expected to continue on Tuesday. Nearly three million people were put under lockdown in China Monday after a surge in coronavirus cases linked to a travelling salesman in the country's northeast. Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is being denied access to legal representation, his lawyer said Monday, after the Kremlin critic was detained at a Moscow airport on arrival from Germany. Navalny lawyer Olga Mikhailova told the Echo of Moscow radio station she was not being permitted to see her client, who was being held at a police station near the airport after he returned to Russia on Sunday. Floriana FC have confirmed the signing of Dutch striker Jeroen Lombe. As reported by the Times of Malta late last week, Lombe agreed on personal terms with the Greens to put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season.
