MTA chairman found out about €80,000 Konrad Mizzi contract ‘from the media’

MPs suggest ways to make it easier for other parties to make it to parliament

A minister and a Nationalist MP, both experts in the electoral system, on Tuesday suggested ways how it could be made easier for other parties to be represented in parliament, while both stressing the importance of ensuring government stability. Joseph Muscat gave blessing for ex-MFSA CEO to continue taking 'extra pay'

First stage of 'monster' Xlendi development approved

The Planning Authority has approved the demolition of a hotel in Xlendi - in what campaigners warn is the the first stage of a massive development project that will change the character of the popular Gozo bay.  At a meeting on Tuesday, an application to demolish the Hotel Xlendi Resort & Spa was approved by a three-person planning commission chaired by Claude Mallia. Priests to be charged with raping altar boy - one also faced claims in Australia

Updated 8.40pm with details Two priests are to be arraigned in Gozo on Wednesday accused of rape and child abuse, the police said. Engineers' union sticks to its legal guns in MCAST course dispute

Man admits two thefts, blames drug habit

A man admitted to two thefts when taken to court on Tuesday, blaming a drug habit he is trying to kick. Jehiel Falzon, 27, from Zabbar, admitted to a 'snatch and grab' that took place on January 9, around 7.40pm, when a 66-year old woman was robbed on Triq Lia, Zabbar. The next day, again in the evening, the man broke into a parked vehicle in Triq is-Santwarju, Zabbar stealing and causing damage. UK records over 100,000 COVID deaths

Another 1,631 deaths were reported on Tuesday bringing the total to 100,162. Five denied bail after being accused of abduction

Five men who were arrested on Monday in connection with an alleged abduction case, were remanded in custody after pleading not guilty upon their arraignment on Tuesday. Syrian-nationals Alhasan Abdulrahman, 36,  Ghyas Dahrouj, 47, Dahrouj Safi, 30, and Hassan Ahmed, 27,  together with Tripoli-born Fadel Abdulsalam Ahmed Mohamed, 39, pleaded not guilty to involvement in the alleged abduction of a Syrian man. Carl Brincat has been appointed chief executive of the Malta Gaming Authority, having previously served the authority as chief legal and enforcement officer, This was the first time the CEO was appointed following a public call, the authority said. Italy government legislates to avoid Olympic Games ban

Italy’s government on Tuesday pushed through a decree guaranteeing the independence of the national Olympic Committee (CONI) to offset the threat of a ban from the Olympic Games. Swiss pharma giant Novartis posts higher 2020 profit

Swiss pharmaceuticals giant Novartis said on Tuesday that its 2020 net profit jumped 13 per cent to $8.1 billion (€6.7bn) after a restructuring saw it hive off its Alcon business.
