PN calls for independent inquiry on new Panama Papers documents

The Nationalist Party this evening called for an independent investigation to seal and investigate in detail new documents set to be arriving in Malta in relation to Mossack Fonseca and Panama Papers. The arrival of the documents, it said, was announced in the newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung. The PN reiterated that it did not have confidence in the police and insisted the inquiry should be led by three former judges who should be appointed in agreement with the Opposition under the Inquiries Act.... OPM refuses to publish former l-Orizzont editor’s contract

The Office of the Prime Minister has turned down a request to publish the contract given to Josef Caruana – a former editor of the GWU’s daily l-Orizzont who is now an aide to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat at Castille. Joe Bannister was appointed director of two funds in the Cayman Islands after he became chairman of the MFSA, publicly available information shows. Woman jailed for theft

A 32-year old man was on Sunday charged with multiple thefts and denied bail. Christian Bonello, who has no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included stealing items from a car and birds from a garage in Sta Luċija. Defence lawyer Noel Cutajar questioned whether 48 hours had expired since Mr Bonello’s arrest on Friday afternoon just after 12pm, as this would have meant the window to charge him was closed.
