The suspect charged with the shooting that killed at least 17 people at a Florida high school is not a registered voter, despite false claims circulating on social media that he is a Democrat. Several right-wing sites highlighted Nikolas Cruz' voter registration in initial reports on the Wednesday shooting in Parkland, Florida, although some identified the suspect as Nicolas de Jesus Cruz. Nikolas Cruz, 19, is not a registered voter in Florida, said Mark Ard, a spokesman for the Florida Department of State, which manages elections there.

Short sellers aren’t known for restraint and decorum, and that goes double on Twitter, where Marc Cohodes vowed to take down a CEO he accuses of fraud. “I will bury the little fella in a shoe box,” Cohodes tweeted in October. RIALTO, Calif. (AP) — Police say a tractor-trailer plowed through the center divider of a Southern California freeway and rammed head-on into traffic. At least four people were killed in the fiery crash. California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Alvarez says a drilling or cement pumping truck was heading west on Interstate 10 in Rialto when it plowed into oncoming traffic. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say four construction workers have been hurt, three critically, after plunging 30 feet down an elevator shaft at an unfinished Los Angeles building. The Fire Department says the men were working on a five-story building in North Hollywood when they fell shortly before 1 p.m. Friday. Workers tell KCBS-TV that some plywood under the men collapsed. The men are described as ranging from 45 to 60 years old. Fire officials say three were taken to the hospital in critical condition and one was in fair condition.

MOSCOW (AP) — He's known as "Putin's chef" — a wealthy Russian businessman and restaurateur who gained favor with Vladimir Putin through his stomach. On Friday, Yevgeny Prigozhin — along with 12 other Russians and three Russian organizations — was charged by the U.S. government as part of a vast and wide-ranging effort to sway political opinion during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Waymo gets driverless permit The first U.S. commercial ride-hailing service without human drivers has been approved. A spokesman for the Arizona Department of Transportation confirmed Friday that Waymo received a permit to operate as a transportation network company. EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A teen in Everett has been charged with attempted murder related to an alleged school shooting plot. The Daily Herald reports 18-year-old Joshua O'Connor also was charged Thursday in Everett District Court with robbery and assault. O'Connor was arrested Tuesday at ACES High School after police say his grandmother called 911 and showed officers a journal where he allegedly drew up plans to shoot students and use homemade explosives at the school.
