Giants delay Johnny Cueto’s mound work after illness
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Johnny Cueto's "normal" spring did not last long.
The Giants' No. 2 starter will not throw his first bullpen session of spring training until at least Monday because he got sick just before coming to Arizona and fell behind the other pitchers.
"He was pretty cooked," manager Bruce Bochy said, "so we decided to push him back a little bit, because when he was sick he couldn't throw. The last thing we want to do is put somebody in a rush mode."
Cueto took part in conditioning and drills Wednesday during the first formal workout of spring training and played long-toss, which he will for the next four days as well before he gets on a mound.
