Several major news organisations including CNN, The New York Times and Politico were excluded from an off camera "gaggle" meeting with White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. The meeting, in Spicer's office, was held in place of the regular daily press briefing. The press secretary hand-picked news outlets including Breitbart News, One America News Network, The Washington Times, all news organisations with far-right leanings. Others major outlets approved included ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, Reuters and Bloomberg. The UK's decision to leave the European Union has set in motion a movement that will sweep the world, Nigel Farage has told a US audience. Mr Farage told American conservatives "what happened in 2016 is the beginning of a great global revolution". Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Mr Farage on Friday compared the UK's June vote to leave the European Union and President Donald Trump's victory in November. Seven of the 10 pending criminal libel cases are against journalists, information obtained by the Times of Malta shows. Three of the seven were instituted by public officials, including the Minister Within the Office of the Prime Minister, Konrad Mizzi, against blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2014, court sources said. Official figures ‘misrepresent’ the struggles of police officers, union official says

At least one police officer a day has to seek medical treatment while on duty for injuries caused by those breaking the law, Police Union secretary Sandro Camilleri said. This is in stark contrast to figures tabled in Parliament this week by Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela which showed that in four years there were 214 police officers injured on duty. Jilted lover seeks revenge

A jilted lover seemingly bent on taking revenge on his former partner was summoned before a magistrate's court today, charged with harassing and threatening the woman, both personally as well as through electronic means. The court, presided by magistrate Joseph Mifsud, heard how the harassment began when relations between Salvatore La Rocca, 40, born in Italy and currently residing in San Ġwann, and his partner turned sour. Nexia BT would not comment on whether they mixed up information on two of their clients: Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri. When he appeared before the Pana Committee on Monday, Dr Mizzi, the Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister, was asked why Nexia BT e-mails showed he had set up a Panama company to extract profits from waste recycling in China, India and other parts of the world. Mosta FC protest upheld by MFA Protests Board

The Malta Football Association’s Protests Board has upheld a protest lodged by Mosta FC against the result of their BOV Premier League second-round match against Pembroke Athleta. The game, played on February 11 at the Hibernians Stadium, ended 5-0 in favour of Pembroke Athleta but the result was annulled by the MFA Protests Board which subsequently awarded a 3-0 victory to Mosta FC. New Weee Trolleys in 11 localities in Gozo

Weee Trolleys – Collection Points have been introduced in 11 localities in Gozo. Residents of the localities can discard small electronic devices, such as cables, kettles, laptops and hairdryers in the trolleys for recycling free of charge. The trolleys can be found in Għarb, Munxar, Żebbuġ, Victoria, Xagħra, Xewkija, Għajnsielem, Qala, Għasri, Kerċem and San Lawrenz. Rare tortoises saved from smugglers make zoo debut

Four endangered tortoises who were rescued from smugglers have gone on show in the UK for the first time. The ploughshare tortoises were sent to Chester Zoo in 2012 after they were confiscated by customs officials in Hong Kong in 2009. The four were part of a shipment of 13 tortoises smuggled from their native Madagascar. The reptiles, listed as critically endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), are highly prized for their distinctive gold and black shells and fetch high prices on the black market... A one-year-old baby died of meningitis B, a disease against which vaccines are currently unavailable, this newspaper is informed. Sources said the baby died last month after contracting the disease that affects the lining around the brain and spinal cord. Share index closes virtually flat

The share index closed the day practically unchanged at nearly 4,748 points on volumes amounting to €0.43 million. A self-confessed drug addict, currently serving a jail term for a number of thefts, was today back in court to face fresh charges related to aggravated theft alongside another man who acted as an accomplice. Allan Grima, 34, from Kalkara, was charged with breaking into a Toyota Hiace parked in Glormu Cassar Hill, Floriana in the early hours of February 12. Horse saved by firefighters after plunging nine metres down Scottish cliff

A horse has been rescued by firefighters after it fell up to nine metres down a cliff. Crews were called to the scene north of Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, in Scotland.  Around 30 firefighters - including rope rescue specialists and a heavy rescue unit - pulled the female horse to safety in an operation lasting around two and a half hours. Homeless man denied bail on drug-related charges

A homeless man who told a court he often seeks shelter at a Park and Ride was denied bail today after being arraigned on charges of drug trafficking following a scuffle with police. Plasterer Abubakar Ibrahim Jabril, 32, was charged with aggravated drug possession on two separate instances in October last year and again earlier this month.
