Panama, Konrad Mizzi, Azerbaijan, trusts…

Times of Malta

It sounds like a cross between a geography lesson and a financial services lecture. Throw in a bit of politics and Konrad Mizzi’s Panama affair becomes a big hotchpotch. Kurt Sansone tries to break it down into digestible portions. Did Konrad Mizzi break the law when he opened a trust in New Zealand? No. It is perfectly legal to open a trust and have a financial structure like that set up by the Energy Minister. Various companies in the financial services sector in Malta offer the service to Maltese and foreign clients. Читать дальше...

Times of Malta

Harry Kane scored his 21st and 22nd goals of the season to inspire Tottenham Hotspur to a routine win at hapless Aston Villa that boosted their Premier League title ambitions. The victory for Spurs consigned bottom-placed Villa to a 20th league defeat of the season while Mauricio... Читать дальше...

Times of Malta

A structure aimed at preventing suicides is to be erected on Mosta Bridge, a notorious suicide spot, if plans laid out by the local council are approved. “Mosta is fed up of being known for a considerable number of suicides every year, and we want to do our bit to save as many lives as we possibly can,” a source close to the council told this newspaper. Church must be one step ahead of the rest of society - Mgr Charles Vella

Times of Malta

In the face of adversity, the Church needs to be one step ahead of the rest of society, according to Cana Movement founder Mgr Charles Vella, who believes the Church is too often slow to react. “The Church is one that runs after the fire engines, it hears the sirens and it goes running behind. “That’s not the way I see things. I always wanted to be ahead of things and I think that it is what the Church needs to do today in light of all the things around it,” Mgr Vella said. He is back in Malta after spending 40 years in Milan. Читать дальше...

Breast ban binned

Times of Malta

Politicians in New Hampshire have rejected a Bill which would have made it a crime for women to expose their breasts or nipples in public. The Bill - which would have made it a misdemeanour for women to show their breasts with "reckless disregard" for whether it would offend someone - was partly a response to a "Free the Nipple" movement that led to two women being cited for going topless at a beach. Supporters of the Bill had warned that allowing women to go topless at beaches could lead to them... Читать дальше...

The BEA investigation agency, releasing a report on Sunday on the March 2015 crash, said multiple doctors who treated Lubitz in the weeks before the crash did not inform authorities of concerns about his mental health. Because Lubitz did not inform anyone of his doctors' warnings, the BEA said "no... Читать дальше...

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this morning quelled speculation of an early election which had been fuelled in the wake of the Panamagate scandal, even though he made no direct reference to Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi and his close aid Keith Schembri. Patrijotti cancel protest supposedly due to short burst of rain

Times of Malta

The self-styled patriots group Għaqda Patrijotti Maltin called off a planned march through Valletta this morning, supposedly due to a short burst of rain, after fewer than 20 people showed up for the protest. The protest was planned to call for better security measures for the public and the police force after what the group claimed was a spate of attacks by foreigners on Maltese people in Paceville. At 9am, however, when the march was scheduled to start, only some 15 people, including the organisers, had gathered at City Gate. Читать дальше...
