I sincerely apologise to Arnold Cassola and Silvio Aliffi, authors of the informative book Malta-Pachino: una storia in comune (Morrone Editore, Siracusa 2014), who were not mentioned in my short article entitled ‘The Maltese colonisation of Pachino, Sicily’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, February 28) despite the fact that their study was greatly utilised in my article. HSBC Bank Malta is standing by parents whose children are fighting cancer at Mater Dei’s Oncology Centre. Through the HSBC Malta Foundation, the bank has donated a number of items to the children’s ward at the new Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre, known as the Rainbow Ward due to its colourful installations and artsy walls that aim to lift the spirits of the young patients. President Bashar al-Assad of Syria and his cruel regime is responsible for the death and destruction of families, homes, schools, hospitals and ancient monuments; the list goes on and on. The pressure is enormous. The relentless bombing and destruction has caused massive fear in the hearts of many Syrians who are rapidly fleeing to Greece or to the Syrian border with Turkey, which at the moment hosts over 2.7 million refugees. Xagħra parish is organising an Easter bazaar selling traditional food such as pastries, honey rings and the typical Easter figolla. All the products are homemade by volunteers from Xagħra. One can buy these products from the bazaar near the parish church, which will remain open until March 25. Or order the pastries by calling 2155 1042. The funds will go towards the restoration of the church dome.

A mischievous little girl is being a bit of a handful so the mother gives her a little slap on her knees. She even raises her voice to show her daughter that she has had enough. However, in spite of everything, the bad tempered mother loves the child immensely. That is how I feel towards the Labour Party. I may criticise it now and then but I simply adore the Labour Party.
