TAMAQUA, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania school district policy that allows teachers and other employees to carry firearms has met overwhelming criticism from parents. The Morning Call reports parents questioned Tamaqua Area School District officials during a meeting Wednesday. School board members passed the policy in a unanimous vote last month. The policy allows staffers to carry handguns in holsters after completing firearms and lethal weapons training. Parents opposing the policy say there are safer, more affordable alternatives. The A’s, ever more in touch with their past, are extending that to their minor-league system, bringing back three former players to work in development. The team announced Tuesday that former shortstop Bobby Crosby, who was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2004 while with Oakland, will join Double-A Midland’s staff as a coach, while reliever Chris Smith, who was part of the 2017 A’s, will be the pitching coach at Class-A Stockton, and onetime A’s third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff will be the hitting coach at short-season Class-A Vermont. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A collegiate athletic conference has achieved a first by playing a football game featuring five female officials. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association says its Oct. 27 game between Winston-Salem State and Shaw had five female referees. The same group had also worked together in a game on Sept. 29. A news release said head line judge Sharlanda Demingo, line judge Christina Thurman, field judge Bobbie Torain, side judge Ruth Onyekwelu and back judge Joysha Gay joined two men for the seven-person crew. The CW has ordered additional episodes for all three of its freshman series, “Charmed,” “Legacies” and “All American.” “Legacies” and “All American” each received an additional three episodes, bringing the total run to 16 apiece. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The panel that oversees Oklahoma's 25 public colleges and universities is asking the Legislature for $100 million in new funding, much of it for faculty raises. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education voted unanimously on Thursday to approve the $878 million budget request for the fiscal year that begins in July. The century-old automobile company announced its acquisition of Spin, a San Francisco-based dockless scooter sharing company, on Wednesday.
