Man arrested after bomb threat in St. Cloud; no device found

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — A man was arrested after an alleged threat in St. Cloud that included references to a bomb and City Hall. No explosive devices were found and authorities say there is no threat to public safety. Police say they learned of the threats Wednesday morning and searched City Hall. The suspect's bag was found, but it contained only personal items and no explosives. The man was arrested on the St. Cloud State University campus, and that area was also searched. Scholar on Sir Francis Drake’s North Bay landing dies at 84

Edward Von der Porten, a renowned maritime scholar who was an expert on Sir Francis Drake’s 16th century visit to California, died Sunday after complications from surgery in San Francisco. He was 84. Von der Porten was a teacher, an author and a historian, but he was best known as a leading authority on Drake’s Pacific voyage in 1579 and his landing near Point Reyes in Marin County. Judge raises Trump comments at hearing over sanctuary cities

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — President Donald Trump's comments about so-called "sanctuary cities" were scrutinized at a federal appeals court hearing Wednesday to determine whether the president's executive order threatening to cut funding from states and cities that limit cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities is legal. Mexico's unlikely independent opens campaign for president

Nebraska judge to decide immigrant foster care lawsuit

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A judge will decide whether a Nebraska agency violated state law in denying three teens entry into a foster care transition program based on their immigration status. A lawsuit against the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services involves three 19-year-olds from Guatemala who are under federal Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, the Lincoln Journal Star reported . Fergus Falls man, woman charged with murder in boy's death

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a man and a woman from Fergus Falls with murder in the death of a 6-year-old boy they were caring for. Forty-year-old Bobbie Christine Bishop and 44-year-old Walter Henry Wynhoff are charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and malicious punishment of a child. State sends out private information in faulty mailing

Charges filed in killing of Kansas City attorney

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say an 80-year-old man who had lost a $5.75 million lawsuit to Kansas City attorney Tom Pickert has been charged in his death. The Kansas City Star reports David Jungerman was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Pickert was found shot to death Oct. 25 on the front porch of his home.
