HOUSTON (AP) — A 38-year-old Houston man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for looting a Walmart store closed during Hurricane Harvey last year. RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has signed legislation that will soften the penalties for people caught stealing smaller-dollar items. The Democratic governor announced Wednesday that he'd approved a bill that raises the state's felony theft threshold from $200 to $500. Virginia has kept its felony bar at $200 since 1980 and is tied with New Jersey for the lowest in the country. Jeff Colyer endorsed a Kansas House plan Wednesday that would increase spending on public schools by roughly $520 million over five years but that is being blocked by GOP state Senate leaders. HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a fatal crash that police say was caused by driving under the influence of methamphetamine. AL.com reports that 46-year-old Donna Charlene Hardy entered a blind plea Friday in connection with the 2016 death of motorcyclist Johnny Dean Hopkins, who was 56. A blind plea means the defendant hasn't reached a prearranged deal with prosecutors about sentencing. John Mack Flanagan, one of the top names in top-40 radio at KFRC, “the Big 610,” in the 1970s, died Saturday of congestive heart failure.
