A crowd runs on Atlantic Avenue near 19th Street on Saturday, April 28, 2018 after a fight broke out nearby. Three people were shot in two separate incidents a short time later. There is an increased police presence throughout the Oceanfront area due to College Beach Weekend. Problems with violence in past years have caused some to be critical of the event. An Austin man has avoided going to prison by claiming the man he stabbed to death had come onto him. James Miller will serve 10 years probation after being convicted of criminally negligent homicide in the killing his neighbor Daniel Spencer in September 2015. Prosecutors argued that because the victim didn't touch Miller or even announce an intention to hurt him, the idea that deadly force was necessary was "ludicrous." $4 Million usd worth of drugs were found in a truck hauling Starbucks products between California and Spokane. The truck was stopped and police say suspicious activity led to the request of help from a narcotics K-9. The driver of the truck, identified by a Mexico driver's license as 22-year-old Carlos Alejandro Luna-Rodriguez, and his passenger, 62-year-old Bernardo Olivas-Leyva from California, were booked into the Lewis County Jail.
