A parked car was destroyed when it caught fire in Naxxar on Monday evening. The fire was reported at about 9.15pm. No one was injured.     

Ryan Fenech is no longer a Valletta FC player after the veteran midfielder reached an agreement with the Premier League club to rescind his contract. Fenech had returned to Valletta FC last season and had another year left on his contract but in the close season he opened talks with the capital club to rescind his contract. Intrepid long-distance swimmer Neil Agius has started his attempt to swim from the Italian island of Linosa to Malta, a distance of 130 kilometres. He plunged into the sea on Monday afternoon after a countdown by friends, some of whom will accompany him on boats to offer support and encouragement.  But before setting off, he had a surprise when his girlfriend proposed to him. Balzan FC have continued their transfer activity when they signed goalkeeper Rudy Briffa and Serbian midfielder Milos Mijic, the Times of Malta can confirm. The Reds are bidding to bounce back from a disappointing 2020-21 season which saw them engaged in a relegation dog fight and managed to preserve their top-flight status in the latter part of the campaign. Pope Francis has written to thank an American priest for his "pastoral zeal" in reaching out to LGBTQ people at a time the Vatican faces criticism over its handling of the issue. Britain's defence ministry on Monday apologised after top secret documents assessing the movements of a Royal Navy warship in the Black Sea were found at a bus stop. Junior defence minister Jeremy Quin told parliament the government was "deeply sorry" for the lapse, which he blamed on a senior ministry official.
