(AP) — A school superintendent in Pennsylvania says a school bus driver arrived at a stop to find a fatally injured second-grader, who apparently had been hit by a vehicle while waiting for the bus. LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The state of Michigan is giving $25 million in grants to select public and private schools to upgrade door locks and other security features in the wake of mass school shootings in other states. The state police received 407 applications requesting $69 million — far more than the $25 million authorized by the Legislature and Gov. Rick Snyder. PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island voters will soon decide whether the state will spend $250 million to rebuild schools. The statewide ballot question on Tuesday asks voters' permission for the first phase of an ambitious plan to rebuild schools. Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo has championed the plan, asking for a "once-in-a-generation investment" to fix schools after years of neglect. CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal judge says the mothers of three transgender teen boys who sued a southwest Ohio county judge over his refusal to grant name changes should have filed an appeal not a civil complaint. The Dayton Daily News reports Cincinnati-based U.S. District Judge William Bertelsman on Tuesday ordered the case dismissed and stricken from the docket, a result sought by Warren County Judge Joe Kirby's attorneys. TUCKER, Ga. (AP) — Police say three people had jumped out of a stolen car and exchanged gunfire with officers during a pursuit in metro Atlanta. DeKalb County police spokesman Sgt. E. McCown tells news outlets that officers are searching for two of the people, as they detained one man early Thursday. He wasn't struck by the officers' gunfire, but police don't know if the other two were wounded. No officers were injured. WOODBURY, Vt. (AP) — Police in Vermont are investigating two house fires where two people were found dead as suspicious. Vermont State Police investigators say human remains were found in adjoining Woodbury homes that were both on fire Tuesday night. Woodbury firefighters were called to a home on Bliss Road after receiving a report that a house was fully engulfed in flames.
