PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Two Rhode Island politicians say state House and Senate leaders should be chosen by secret ballot instead of a roll call vote. The Providence Journal reports Democratic Sen. Donna Nesselbush and Democratic Senate candidate Sam Bell say state law calls for a secret ballot. They say that a roll call vote props up a "system of rewards and punishment" because leadership can identify who voted for and against them. NEW YORK (AP) — The 14th volume of Bob Dylan's bootleg series won't settle one of the most persistent debates about his recording career. But it will allow fans to decide for themselves. Dylan's 1975 album "Blood on the Tracks" is considered a milestone, a torrent of words and images thought to be inspired by the breakup of his marriage, although he insists the stories he was reading at the time had more to do with it. COVINGTON, La. (AP) — Louisiana State Police say a cyclist wearing dark clothes and riding a bicycle without safety lamps died when a car hit his bicycle from behind, throwing him off the bike. A news release Wednesday said 59-year-old Alejandro Otilio Reyes-Meza of Covington also was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred about 11 p.m. Tuesday Senior Trooper Dustin Dwight is a state police spokesman. TORONTO (AP) — The case of a man accused of driving a van into pedestrians in Toronto and killing 10 people will head straight to trial without a preliminary hearing. U.S. District Judge Brian Miller on Thursday denied Justice Courtney Goodson's request for an injunction halting the attacks from the Republican State Leadership Committee's Judicial Fairness Initiative. Goodson is running against David Sterling, an attorney for the state Department of Human Services, in Tuesday's election.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — NASA has lost a second spacecraft this week, ending a fruitful mission in the asteroid belt. Running low on fuel for some time, the Dawn spacecraft this week stopped communicating with flight controllers.
