LOS ANGELES (AP) — The University of Southern California on Friday announced an agreement in principle for a $215 million class-action settlement of claims involving alleged sexual harassment and abuse by a gynecologist who treated students for decades. ARLINGTON, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say a Tennessee home for the elderly kept an off-the-books resident in "storage" to hide her from police and state inspectors. The Tennessean reports the eight-bed Caring Estates home was ordered this week to stop accepting new patients after a September investigation revealed multiple violations. Records show inspectors found an elderly woman in a room an employee described as "storage." WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is proposing rules for investors in a new program that it says could have a big impact on economically depressed areas around the country. About 8,700 so-called "opportunity zones" have been set up in all 50 states to lure investors and developers with tax breaks. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sioux Falls drivers could be banned from using cellphones and other electronic devices under a new ordinance proposal. The Argus Leader reports that City Councilor Janet Brekke plans to propose new restrictions on the use of all handheld electronics while behind the wheel in the coming months. James Dean Blevins was told Thursday that the federal charges filed against him in Arizona accusing him of threatening an official identified only as "United States Senator J.F." could be transferred to Chicago if prosecutors don't object. Friday night's Mega Millions grand prize has hit a staggering $1 billion, continuing a trend of giant jackpots. It's the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history and joins five other top 10 drawings in the last three years. PETOSKEY, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan pharmacist accused of refusing to fill a prescription to help a woman complete a miscarriage no longer works for the Meijer retail chain. Meijer spokeswoman Christina Fecher says the pharmacist last worked in July. She didn't say whether he was fired from the Petoskey store in northern Michigan. RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A former Kentucky teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. The Daily News reports a judge handed down the sentence Thursday for 30-year-old Adam Decker of Leitchfield. Decker pleaded guilty to 15 criminal counts including rape, sodomy, sex abuse and possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. The plea agreement dismissed 22 other counts, but required him to register as a sex offender for life.
