FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina sheriff's deputy who died from wounds suffered in a mass shooting earlier this month was remembered Sunday at her funeral as a dedicated peace officer who always had a smile. The funeral for Florence County Sheriff's Investigator Farrah Turner, 36, drew relatives and colleagues together along with law enforcement representatives from around the country. WOLCOTT, Conn. (AP) — Authorities in Connecticut say a goat attacked by a bear late last week has died. Police say the Wolcott man was awakened early Friday by his dog barking and his goats screaming. The man ran out to the pen, enclosed by an electric fence, where he saw a bear attacking his goats. JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a woman and a 2-year-old boy were injured in a shooting inside a New Jersey apartment. Jersey City spokeswoman Kim Wallace-Scalcione told reporters that the victims were found just after 2 a.m. with gunshot wounds. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Amid the 48 newly minted Louisiana State Police troopers, one woman was making history, with a little help from mom. WBRZ-TV reports that when 23-year-old Tiah Larvadain recently graduated from cadet training, she became part of the first mother-daughter duo in state police history. Larvadain's mother, Lt.
