NEW YORK (AP) — J.C. Penney has named Jill Soltau, who most recently served as president and CEO of fabric and crafts chain Jo-Ann Stores, to be its next CEO, effective Oct. 15. NEW YORK (AP) — Retailers sank Tuesday after Amazon said it will raise hourly wages for U.S. employees, and smaller companies continued to stumble. Several big industrial companies rose, pushing the Dow Jones Industrial Average to a record high. Amazon, one of the largest private employers in the U.S., said it will raise the minimum wage for its U.S. workers to $15 an hour in November. LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A former Air Force sergeant in New Mexico man has been sentenced to 15 years in a federal prison in connection with the death of his infant daughter in 2007. Prosecutors say 33-year-old Peter John Zayas was sentenced Tuesday after his conviction on a charge of child abuse resulting in great bodily harm. AFFTON, Mo. (AP) — A St. Louis County woman is dead following a fire at her apartment, and authorities say she had been shot.
