KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysian police see no terrorism link to the disappearance of an industrial item containing radioactive material more than a week ago. Police said in a statement Tuesday that two technicians reported the device missing while they were transporting it Aug. 10 to their company's office. Police detained the two workers for a week to assist in the investigation but released them on bond as no evidence linked them to the device's disappearance. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The number of Tennessee residents who died of drug overdoses has risen more than 8 percent, setting another record in 2017. The state Health Department said 1,776 Tennesseans died from overdoses last year, the most since reporting began. The number was up from 1,631 in 2016, also a record and a 12 percent increase from 1,451 in 2015. SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse officials have approved spending for new LED streetlights. WSTM-TV reports the Common Council unanimously approved borrowing $38 million for the overhaul. Officials say $15 million will go towards new LED lights while the remaining funds will be used for repairs and other services. DUXBURY, Mass. (AP) — Officials in Massachusetts are investigating the death of a fin whale that washed up on a beach. The New England Aquarium says the 55-foot-long whale was floating in Cape Cod Bay Sunday before it washed ashore on Duxbury Beach Monday morning. Aquarium spokeswoman Diana Brown McCloy says it appears the whale had been dead for about two or three days. The aquarium will conduct a necropsy of the whale. Duxbury police have closed off the area while officials work at the scene.

JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island woman who lost her ability to walk after she was diagnosed with cancer is thanking local firefighters for building a wheelchair ramp at her home. WPRI-TV reports Bruni Sias was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer that spread to her brain, causing her to become partially paralyzed. Johnston firefighters sprang into action after they were contacted by Sias' friend.
